Neighbours left their housebound young cat out on their first floor balcony all weekend a few weeks ago when they were away. After cat making noises for a while me and the lass got concerned and managed to push tupperwares of food and water onto the balcony.

Last few days the cat has been doing the rounds of the apartment block making noises, seemed odd to us it was outside. Today we asked about the cat and they said that due to it making mess in the apartment they have put it out, and it has to "hunt for itself". I would have given them some non too friendly lip but this is Switzerland and i dont speak the lingo.

Fed cat some tuna tonight. Concerned its not getting fed and is suddenly facing an environment its not used to. What to do?

A) have a word with the neighbours risking possible friction (i dont care but mrs does as she will have to do the talking)

B) mind our own business, leave cat to own devices.

C) cat nap and take to local rescue centre without running this by neighbours. My preferred option so far.

Any advice gratefully received.

Cats can fend for themselves (aslong as its not stuck on a balcony with nowhere to go) roaming the streets they will usually find enough to keep themselves fed - tho usually end up getting killed by a car, bigger animal, maimed by the environement (broken glass, barbed wire, etc.) or some other nasty death long before they would starve.

Even if you do hate cats it's an act of selfishness and cruelty. Their neighbours will suffer as will the cat itself. The owners have a responsibility to deal with the situation.

Ignore the people who hate cats (people who get their rocks off at the idea of animals being thrown off balconies need time to get their breath back when they post so are usually not too rational) and consider either whether you want to take it in or take it to the rescue centre and let them find a good home for it.

It crapped in their apartment so they threw it out? I'd suggest posting cat **** through their letterbox / windows and denying all knowledge. For as long as you're willing to keep this up.

Also consider adopting the cat, preferably after telling them you quite like their cat and would be happy to take care of it.

i take it they dont own and maintain a litter tray then.

i dont see a cat fending for itself via hunting either

It's a cat, it will look for the easiest source of food. Once it realises that is no longer the place it used to be it will find food elsewhere. It will be fine.
