***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

So tempted to get this phone as my 2 year iPhone 4 contract has now come to an end. Bet there must be a lot of iPhone 4 early adopters like me thinking along the same lines.

My only concern about going down the Android route is that I'm so used to the simplicity of iTunes syncing for things like firmware updates, podcasts, app management etc. Can someone here who has come from an iPhone comment on how they found the transition?

I've found the transition very easy,

Samsungs Kies(think thats what its called) software can let you send music and other files via usb or wifi to the phone.

As for applications and like I've found it very easy to find similar applications to the ones I used on my iPhone or even better ones.

The one thing I don't like is the lack of tapping the top of the screen when scrolled on a page and it taking you to top of the screen, really miss that.

Makes you wonder, why they dont come standard with a screen protector on, those that dont want it can just bin it then.
Does it not fall under, "not fit for purpose" if a phone which goes in your pocket so easily gets damaged?

No, glass is glass... it can't help it's hardness vs other things it comes into contact with while out and about and in your pocket. Samsung and all othe rmanufacturers sell you the device in pristine condition, and then it's up to the user to be sensible and take their own precautions to make sure it stays that way. You wouldn't buy a nice a laptop and carry it around everywhere without a suitable bag, and then call it unfit for purpose when it picked up some scuffs would you? A certain amount of delicacy in a high-end electronics device has to be expected.

It's a £500 phone with a large screen, and some of you seem to expect it to be bulletproof like the Nokia bricks of old that were made from thick plastic and had small screen areas. Phones are getting less rugged the more advanced (see: thinner and lightweight) they get. Treat them as such.

Again, it's all down to common sense...

CheckROM is finishing up nicely so far for the S3, the kitchen is still being rebuilt and there are no mods yet in the beta but it's going to be epic.

That and CM9 nightly = Good times for S3 owners all round.

Does the CM9 nightly has touch focus camcorder/hdr mode in camera etc?

Touch Yes IIRC but not sure about HDR, though all the camera/performance stuff comes later after the rom gets stable.

Why is a car bonnet designed to hold your keys? A phone is designed to go in your pocket.

It's not designed for you to get boozed up and then chuck your keys in the same pocket though.

Phone screen technology has improved massively in recent years, I remember how easy it used to be to get a scratch on phones like my SE k750i. The answer is simple, if you get drunk often and want a screen protector then buy one for £2.

The one thing I don't like is the lack of tapping the top of the screen when scrolled on a page and it taking you to top of the screen, really miss that.

ICS+ Browser in the market has a feature where if you touch the fav icon in the url bar it goes to the top of the screen if that helps.

Got a scratch on my phone somehow during a boozy night out on Friday. After 4 years without one on both my iPhones, to say I'm upset/disappointed would be an understatement.

I've seen that CPWH will repair it for £80, but are there any other methods I could use before going there as a last resort?

Signed one sad S3 owner.

Screen protector now applied. Went on real easy (dry method) the first attempt with no bubbles. Just pulled back a bit of the sticky side cover, laid it down exactly at the top and used my debit card to run it down as I slowly pulled it off... Couple of bubbles were easily moved to the edge with the debit card where they then disappear :)

I have 9 extra protectors now LOL. Expected to make a hash of it so bought the pack of 10 for about £2 :)

Took all of 3-4 mins to do :)

If that is so you can get to the address bar - press and hold the menu button and it makes the address bar appear so you can type a new address in :)

Wi-Fi Direct is a new wireless technology that enables Wi-Fi devices to connect directly to one another. That means that users on the go can print documents, share data, sync files, and display information from notebooks and netbooks, as well as devices like smartphones and tablets. Products that are certified Wi-Fi Direct can connect to other wireless devices without joining a traditional wireless network or Wi-Fi hotspot

Simple I would have thought?

My S3 just arrived!!

Pebble blue from amazon. Charging for the first time now, how long does it take!?

Now to find a case, as I am clearly going to drop it!:p

so, does any1 have the updated blue 1's, only reason i ask is because i went into phones 4u today and they said they are gettin sum before the weekend. im a bit dubious coz everywhere else said weeks before they get stock ,so are they gonna sell a duff pebble blue one or the updated metalic blue?

blue ones are fairly easy to get hold of now I think.

I don't think there has actually been a colour change, they do appear change colour under different lighting though.

Just turn it on, charging it first doesn't make any difference to battery life.
