Losing weight: Socialising?

Also to the OP about 'changing your lifestyle', you will have to cut back on the beers a bit (or at least how frequently you drink), because your body physically will not benefit from working out if you keep drinking afterwards. Alcohol is pretty much a no-go substance if your body is trying to recover from any sort of immune illness or physical repair. It basically retards your body's development. So if you go running one day and then drink 3 pints that afternoon, or the next day... the run was a total waste of your time.

Not sure that last bit is entirely true as you would still have burnt calories doing the run... you just may not get the same muscular or cardiovascular benefit, correct me if I am wrong? I'm certainly no expert.

Since my healthy eating/drinking binge the only thing I drink these days is water. No tea, coffee or soft drinks of any kind, well maybe occasionally when I'm out and about. Beer on the other hand now gives me a headache before I've even downed the first pint and have a hangover before I've left the pub - I'm such a cheap date these days! :D

This is what I mean... you'll burn off the calories but you will gain no physical benefit from it. Doesn't the OP want to get fitter?

el oh el.

10 pints? try the 20 pint club if you don't want to be seen as a bender in real life.

time to pull your socks up OP.

You want to consume massive amounts of calories while losing weight and your justification is that other people don't gain weight while doing it?

I'll stay fat then thanks. 10 pints was an exaggeration in case you couldn't tell. I have pints at the weekend as do my mates but they and aren't fat so presumably it can be done.

Of course it can be done, I drink. A lot, though less now than what I used to. I eat sensibly most of the time, but I make sure I am in the gym at least 5-6 days a week. Some days going twice.

Get on a decent workout plan like riptoes starting strength, with some cardio added. Sort out a diet and enjoy drinking if that's what you like. The chances of getting addicted and stopping drinking as much is quite high mind.

I'm a big drinker, how do I go to the pub on a Friday or Saturday night and order anything other than 10 pints without looking like a bender?

I've been a bender all my life because I didn't drink alcohol until I was 40 and now I only have 1 bottle at the very most if I can be bothered.
I also knock around with Bikers and Rockers and as far as I know nobody is pointing behind my back that I'm a raving poofter.
Get some proper mates.

Kcals per shot of spirits roughly 40
Kcals per pint of beer roughly 200

Yes per 100ml there is roughly 5x as much in spirits but you don't drink it in pints.

If you're a man you do :p

Seriously though, shot of vodka is one unit and roughly 55kcals, pint of Stella has 256Kcal's and 2.7 units. so 2.7x 55kcals is 148.5Kcals for the same amount of alcohol in vokda vs Stella.

It's not massively different, if you really have 10 pints of stronger beer, you're talking large pizza total calories but with next to no nutritional content(you body can use the protein and some fat and use some of that energy effectively). 27 shots of vodka or 10 pints is simply enough to make you gain weight either way.

Vodka + coke, 125cals, Vodka + diet coke, 55kcals, 2.7units of vodka + coke = 337.5kcal's vs the 256kcals in Stella. It's the mixer that hurts you when drinking spirits. Stick to diet mixer's and it does help IF you have to drink. Better to not drink at all, when losing weight alcohol has all kinds of hormonal effects that make losing weight harder, lose weight while not drinking will be quicker than losing weight + 5 pints every weekend.
