I normally don't bother commenting on games, even one as main stream as Diablo 3 but I feel it has to be said 'Blizzard have taken the fun out of the game', at least they have for me. Blizzard have turned this game into a pyramid scheme, great if you are close to the top as you get a piece of the pie (its sweet to earn some money by playing a game) but sucks to be lower down. I got to hand it to Blizzard, what a brilliant way to milk the cash out of this franchise by dangling that 'earn real money by playing our game' carrot in front of millions of people. Of course the only people that are getting very rich are Blizzard by letting their minions earn it for them, brilliant scheme (and perhaps @0.1% of D3 players that are lucky enough to be in a position to sell items for enough money to make it worth the time they are investing on getting it).

My full 2cs of D3 in spoiler.

Perhaps D3 has come to the end of the road for me, all I feel there is left to do is try to grind for better gear in order to .... well, grind for even better gear, sad really. I was hoping the kill Diablo and finish the game at the hardest level but that ain't gonna happen, especially not with the recent patch. Already re-rolled three other characters but restarting is also becoming too familiar and a boring chore. The new patch offers even more frustration and annoyances plus it 'definitely' drops worse gear for me at act3 inferno (seeing grey items again for the first time), repair cost is through the roof (from total @21K before patch to @78k now), damage reduction is pretty serious, for me it takes @twice as long to kill anything now. My average progress through a section (complete clearance providing no silly combo bosses), from recall stone to recall stone, takes @2-3 times as long and it took ages before.

So I gotta ask myself, am I having fun playing it and is there a purpose to still playing it?

Answer, no and purpose only feels like a grind for better stuff in order to grind even more ****. Blizzard has turned the game into a Pyramid scheme in my eyes (my biggest gripe), its great if you are close to the top, have either really good gear, found a good 'exploit' or farming location, can get pretty far without getting killed by every mob and get good drops in order to sell to cover your repair costs, time invested and have the money to purchase even better gear, perhaps even sell some bits for good money on the RMAH which is sweet if you have the stuff worth selling. However, for most of us 'plebs' who are at the bottom of this pyramid, there really isn't much attraction anymore, at least in my eyes, to persevere with this game. In a way I am thankful to Blizzard for their choices which I personally feel have ruined the game, cause now I have a good excuse to reduce the amount of time I 'waste' playing this game, I may still return to an occasional run through with a lowbie character and see if any expansions come out in the future. It was fun while it lasted and all in all, a good £35 spend considering the time I invested in this game. But it is time to put it down before my next death/cost of repair/nerf patch/**** loot drops causes me to headbutt my keyboard and snap my mouse.

My 2cs.

So my sword is currently 800DPS. If I got a wepaon that was say 1k DPS, would this boost my overall DPS by 200 or is it more?

I have no idea how it works.

Cheers

No. DPS is a guideline, and for the most part of the game you can guarantee that more DPS is better -- but in Inferno you really have to consider your build / stats you need. Right now I have a 1300 dps weapon which grants me 150% crit hit + has a bunch of Int. If I were to buy a 1500 dps blue with no stats I'd probably lose at least 10k damage.

If anything the high repair costs will hit blizz pockets hard due to less cash transactions going forward, people are now forced to use the gold AH to support their characters on the elusive hunt for high value RMAH items, I expect the price of both RMAH and GAH items to increase due to this.

RMAH items will increase in price as more likely it will be the better loot being sold there, thus demanding a higher value, Blizz will still get their cut but won't be seeing as many transactions.

GAH items will start to rise especially on the top end items as people seek to maximise profit to allow them to farm RMAH items for longer, inflation of repair costs means they are forced to use GAH and will want better returns.

I think Blizz is smart enough to know they are now going to make less money from RMAH sales and I'll bet they reduce repair costs pretty quickly after they see their wallet thin.

OK I've just started playing after the patch. For a barb with 59/60 item level gear the repair costs really isn't anything to be worried about. Not sure how bad it gets for people with 62/63 item level gear though. I'm certainly making a profit.

How many times did you die?

Around 15 times farming act 3 that's including the 50 odd health pots, I will no longer be buying them at 600gp each after today.

Just got my 1st set item. It is complete rubbish so i put it up for auction for 75k.

I know what you mean, for me it does spoil an element of the game i'd rather find my own things than just save up to buy stuff.

I bought a few cheap rare items to try out the AH but now the game is too easy! :(

I suppose I could try auctioning them! :D

So is highest DPS + primary stat always the way to go? I'm lvl 45 with a 75dps 1h and ~700% dmg increase from stats. I've seen 1h up to 112dps at my level that I can't afford so am trying to play the max/min game with drops and selling yellows for gold on the regular AH (not going near the RMAH lol).

I'm only in Act II nightmare but haven't had any genuine problems I couldn't solve by juggling builds, even though I've got not sure what stats I should be focusing on with my wizard. From what you guys have said I'm trying to get the highest dps and int with as much vitality as I could squeeze in.

Not sure about other stats like armour and dex - is it worth doubling armour on an item if it means a hit on int or vitality? Does dex increase avoidance or is it pretty much pointless as a squishy class? Are specials like Life on hit, power on hit, crit chance, attack speed etc worth pursuing over straight int / vit ? It's clearly a numbers game but I've no idea which way to go.

Guys, is it worth me training the blacksmith? I'm level 54 and have done nothing with him so far.

To be fair,i picked up a sword off the AH fairly early on in the game just to test it out but it did make the game for too easy and I just got bored.

Repairs aren't a problem... Until you run into that first impossible champ pack that you can't possibly defeat without gear capable of afk'ing Inferno Diablo. Then you get killed several times and either reset the area, losing your NV, or skip it, which only works if you had the skills that allow you to do so equipped initially.

The moment I come across a melee type Serpent champ/elite in the aquaducts I may as well quit and restart. They hit like a truck and you can't outrun them.

The funniest bit is though that despite all these changes, they STILL haven't fixed Spiderlings on Act II having by far the highest damage and attack speed of any enemy! Came across a Champ pack in the Cave of the Betrayer. It only hits me for 5k, more than basically every other enemy out there, moves faster than I can and attacks so fast that if I even try to attack them I'm dead before I can do anything significant.

Gold is in high demand now due to the incredibly outrageous bad repair costs, so i expect to see even more over inflated prices on Gold AH as people try to bank a ton to feed their hunt for the elusive items that will sell well on the RMAH!

Blizz has pulled off a masterstroke, they dangled the RMAH carrot making people farm for presitge items to flog off for tons of cash in the meantime increased the costs of repairs by such a ludicrous amount that you are also forced to flog stuff on the gold AH to support the habit of farming for the RMAH lol, its win win for them!

If more people are trying to sell items for gold then surely that will drive the prices down?

Yeah I'm starting to experience this. I think I'm gonna farm hell for a little while. There's some elites within inferno act one I can take on relatively easily but the majority either involve a kill or two which doesn't make it profitable or the combination of affixes just entirely removes skills from the equation, it's all about the gear. It's a little bit annoying like this. It's kinda like playing a hardcore character where one just farms an area until they're geared up enough to make the next area easy. In this case it's just about making the next area financially viable.

Does anyone feel like boosting my wizard through nightmare act 3-4? :p

Feeling very lazy today, I'm at the part where I have to find the breach in the keep depths. :)

Well before the patch I couldn't farm act 2 at all. Now it's a lot easier so I'm going to farm it until I get geared enough for A3. :)

Much less frustrating now and I'm actually enjoying the game again.

I've currently got a Wizard and Barbarian at about level 35-ish, both just making progress in Hell Act 1. I'm starting to get itchy feet for starting another character - what's the recommendations for the next one to start? I'd like whichever one is most fun to play, but I'm not a big fan of micromanaging pets, if that effects the Witchdoctor as a choice. Any recommendations?

Really loving this game, though I appreciate I'm not exactly end-game yet.

Still stuck farming Act 1 Inferno on my DH. It's easy as anything but stepping into Act 2 Oasis (where I bloody mindedly grinded to pre-patch) stills gets me 1 shot and/or gangbanged to death by serpents or just about any elite pack. Fun.

Lost 1/4 of my dps with the patch :(

Repair costs has made farming siegebreaker unprofitable for my glass cannon DH. Laughably so

Spent 5 Mill on a pair of pants and helm to boost vit and res without sacrificing too much dps. DH is up to 19k vit now, think i need about double that before i'll consider Act 3 again

over 50k+ gold wasted on repairs + pots trying to kill belial and his meteors.

2hrs later im still on act 2 :(:mad::(

god i hate those meteors
