Hmm I'd disagree on that one. Id rather bend a bar, than have it start to wiggle loose.

I don't mean loose as in you hit a rock whilst turning and your bars twist out of alignment :p I mean the stem shouldn't be clamped so tight that it doesn't move. In the event of a hard crash were you could have bent you bars your stem twists out of alignment thus saving your bars. I'd much rather have to take 10 secs to realign my bars than have to end ride and shell out £50.

That said I run a bolted stem :p

Nah, I'd rather fork out the 50 still :)
I like mine to be tighter than weescott's wallet at a Wedding bar!

I just found if bolts are even slightly slack, they will in time wiggle loose, and I don;t check my bolts often enough to have to worry about that.

Talk a look at Snowcard and Dog Tag. I've used both but never had to make a claim. Out of the two I'd use Dog Tag again as they were cheaper and you get dog tags to wear with your details on.

Do any of these policies cover you for trips in the UK or do you have to travel outside of the country?

I know you guys aren't really interested in BMX but this is my first foray into bikes in over a decade so wanted to record my results somewhere!

Before with Rust

After, using Citrus Degreaser and a Green Srubbing Pad. Took about 2 minutes per crank arm.

I've given it a coat of clear lacquer. Should hopefully keep the rust away for a while, since ive been scratching at the chrome surface it could come back worse.

Need to replace the V Brake on rear now as the tension screws are snapped.

Had to give a roadie a lift home from the shop today before he died so he's gave me his old mtb that he got knocked off on.

I had literally just put on new wheels(basic £125 set) and all that. Will fit the Marzocchi gran fondo forks from way back 2006 and see how it goes! If it feels ok I'll order in a set of deore or SLX brakes to go with it.

Just back from Carron valley. Did 2.5 laps in an hour and a half. If anyone goes up soon you will notice 2 large gouges out of the first speed bump going in. My car made some painful noises getting over it!

Took a MTB noob round one of my local trails last night. I have never known anyone to have so much bad luck. Snapped chain. Fixed. Snapped mech hanger. So converted to singlespeed. Then his granny ring broke. WTF?? But he still loved it and will be coming out biking again. :D

Wheres a good place to practice some jumps, local-ish to Berkshire (not including Swinley)?
I was thinking of going up to Woburn sands as it looks quite good, but I am not as confident as I used to be.

Supercow, how did the SPD testing go? Like them? Decided they are the worst thing ever and gone back to flats?

Ive not got them on the DH bike, only the AM bike - but I'm liking it a lot.
My only problem is the way I pedal and trying to get a decent cleat position is proving difficult. I cut my shoe sole a bit so that I can push the cleats further back.

Put my disco slippers on and had a go at one of my mates' DH bike clipped in, and really liked that too. Just fun to be able to pick up the bikeusing your feet. It's also fun in the air as you can shove your rear end where you please.

Join me up at Woburn, probably be there again this weekend, given the crappy weather (it runs perfectly in the wet). There are tiny jumps, big jump and massive jumps and everything in between.

Its a fantastic place to build skills. The runs are only super short, but the placehas bred 2 world cup racers, masters of dirt contestants and so forth.

Took a couple of vids last weekend- The Transfer line is fun and flowy: (sorry about the quality, upload speed at work sucks)

We also faffed about on tiny jumps to try and get whip technique right:

Also worth noting that a DH bike is entirely overkill, guys ride the same track on their BMXes too.

ouchy! CV is ok - can blast round a lap in 30/35 mins like you say.

Supercow - I rode Woburn once on a bmx !- it was pretty sandy and so actually pretty hard I thought (my usual trails were smooth concrete like hard packed chalk)

although I am starting to get the hang of jumps on a mtb - think I can kiss goodbye getting flat tables back again though sadface

Have you had any new or interesting crashes/offs due to the SPD's? I'm thinking about trying them, but the thing worrying me is coming off and me being stuck to my bike!
