Jimmy Carr overcome by grief

Hate it when "morals" are involved in tax avoidance stories, you aren't morally obliged to pay tax you don't pay it out of the kindness of you heart, you're legally obliged to pay tax, if you can find legal ways to avoid paying as much tax as the government can get before it becomes illegal avoidance (evasion), then good on you.

I only ever buy things from Tesco that are one offer. It's a legal way to pay the absolute minimum for the things I want. Oh noes I is immoral!!

+1,000,000,000,000*

*Less tax

Glad Carr has apologised, too late now for his position on the 10 o'clock show to be tenable though.

What??

Hes not in public office, he hasn't done anything wrong how can he not continue?

Oh and lolstockhausen another stupid thread. I know people I used to work with on 40-50k who were on tax avoidance schemes etc, most everyone with a brain is at it should we all be morally lambasted too? People ate too stupid to sort it got themselves so instead blame others from jealousy.

Hmm, I feel like playing today...

Stockhausen, when you earn that much money, I'd like to see how much tax you're paying...

Oh wait....

Also, what makes it immoral? It's legal. Personally if I sent my kids to private school or paid for private healthcare, I don't see why I should have to pay the relevant area of tax.

I have more of an issue of the collective pot for tax and it's distribution by the government, more than whether anyone is actually paying tax.

You know, the problem I have with Stockhausen posts isn't the fact that he's trying to inform people of what's happening in the news (I can appreciate that), it's the fact that now we've asked him to put his opinion on stuff, rather than being RSSHausen, it just seems like he's trying to shove his completely biased opinion down your throat with whatever he writes...

I know, I know... Then why do you bother coming into the thread... For the naysayers, it's to see what everyone else has to say on the topic, although mostly, half the thread is Hausen bashing...

kd

The two concepts aren't mutually exclusive. Farting on the bus is both legal and immoral.

Politicians trying to claim some sort of moral superiority sticks in the throat slightly. Say you think it's wrong and you'll close the loopholes, don't try and claim a moral high ground over someone doing what is legal.

It's like a pretty girl getting dressed up and being upset when people look - what she means is the *wrong* people are looking.

These tax holes were not set up for the likes of jimmy carr.

If he didn't think he was doing anything wrong he would just ride out the storm.
Apparently 'we're all in this together'...

does it matter how much tax you avoid as long as you spend the money in the UK?

If I earn 100k and pay no tax but spend all 100k in the UK then thats ok for hte economy? - money stays in the country

if I earn 30k (and pay tax) but send half of it to my family in x y or z country thats bad for the economy? - money leaves the country

or is that totally wrong thinking?

If the scheme is legal, then surely the blame ultimately lies with the government for not stamping it out sooner. ...

BINGO!

... Maybe it was as simple a conversation as "cheaper taxes? Legal? Super!" and he never got any more details than that.
Perhaps, perhaps not. Either way, I look forward to Jimmy Carr's next appearance on Have I got News For You :D

For some reason I really want to punch stockhausen in the face ...
And it is for this kind of reason that I am delighted to hear that you claim that you will never have spawn to perpetuate your smug, self-satisfied, selfish genes ;)

I do agree that Tax Avoidance is wrong, and schemes like this need to be blocked

I don't think I would "avoid" my taxes, although Im not stupid enough to see why people do if they can get away with it

Jimmy Carr shouldn't be a scapegoat for this issue, as Im sure many many people do far worse - however I do think this has made him a bit of a hypocrite in regard to 10 o'clock live content on tax dodging and bankers

The problem is that the waters have been muddied, "Tax Avoidance" a has become a term used in such as way as to have a sly dig a someone and hint that they have done something wrong.

I don't think I would "avoid" my taxes, although Im not stupid enough to see why people do if they can get away with it.

So, lets say you pay the lower rate of tax and later on today the offer of only paying 5% tax was made, are you saying you would refuse that offer?

I see no problem with paying less tax, in fact i actively encourage it. If anyone can find a way legal or illegal to pay less tax. Firstly tell me about it and secondly well done!!

Any amount of money not wasted on the baphomet of the state is money well spent. :D
