Just got a Samsung 830 256gb SSD for my laptop it came with Norton Ghost which I've installed and connected the SSD via usb with the provided cable. Do I just need to go to the copy Hard drive option in Ghost?

Thanks

Laptop is Lenovo X121e, not sure if that's important

I'd hope it would be obvious or google could help? Copy drive sounds like something you might use to... you know... copy your drive?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, don't feel bad you didn't know the answer and i will try out Google as you suggested :)

The option is normally clone drive (never used ghost). I read a review and it said you should select show hidden dives as win 7 has a 100mb partition. Then copy both. I am thinking about getting a 256gb 830 ssd so would be interested to know how to do it.

I cloned from the same disk(60gb 2e) as you to the samsung using ghost this saturday just gone, this is what I did.

install ghost.
I installed both drives via sata (faster than the usb thing)
Check in disk management which partition is the boot one. (most will be the 100mb one, mine was not)

Initalised the 256ssd but no format or partition. (MBR not gpt if option pops up)

Copied over the 100mb partition first, select no drive letter in ghost and set active if on old drive the system reserved was the boot one.
Then copy over the c: partition, again no drive number in ghost (Set active if needed).

Once cloned, took out old disk and disconnected any other hds, booted up fine no probs at all.

Took a little under 15mins for the clone and about 20 mins to install/blow out dust and drink tea beforehand

(From various research the problems to avoid were selecting the drive number in ghost, set active on 100mb when old disk is something else, not taking out old drive upon first reboot after clone)

Thanks Ivyforce,
I still have not decided if I will get a Samsung 830 256gb or Crucial RealSSD 256gb. I have a 128gb m4 in and it works very well but is almost full so need extra room.
