***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

SO I am going to try out this Omega v6.0 ROM, I've just done a backup with CWM so after this new ROM is installed I can recover things like messages, contacts etc right? :p

Edit : Or do I i need to backup with something like Titanium Backup instead?

?

Its still multitasking to me. What does webOS do to make it more "real"?

Keeps the programs in memory, proper multitasking as if on a desktop PC. You can set a website loading in the browser, go do other things for a while and come back to it fully loaded. In android it stores the fact you were using a browser and the url you were at and reloads it when you go back to it - subtle but highly important difference.

I see. But, for example, how come i can play a game on my S3, go and browse the internet or whatever and then come back to the game exactly where i was before?

Thats good enough multitasking for me to be honest :p

Although I have never done this, someone else can confirm.

Afaik, the CWM backup is a nandroid backup and saves the entire state of the operating system including settings and messages. However, as you are changing ROM's you would need to use something like Titanium which just backups settings, messages and apps etc. If you were to restore your CWM backup it would go back to the stock ROM.

Well I have now got a backup from both CWM and Titanium, but from what I have read and watched on youtube I don't need to wipe the phone completely anyway because I am still using the standard ICS ROM which came with the phone (although it is rooted)?

Install CWM Recovery with Odin - Get CWM Recovery here
Boot to CWM Recovery using volume up, power button and home key
Backup your device and make sure to keep a copy of the backup to your pc!
Wipe data / factory reset (Not needed if you already have Omega)
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache

Install Omega

From that, I would wipe it in CWM

Edit: Let us know how it goes. I am umming as to whether Omega is worth the switch.

Well I followed what this guy did :

And it has updated it no problem, everything still works and nothing has been lost but it seems kinda sluggish... might do the wipe after all then restore then apps etc.

Does it do any damage to the battery leave it on charge while the battery is full?

My phone is charging now, and I am about to go to bed, it will be fully charged in the middle of the night but I won't get to unplug it until the morning. Does this do any damage to the battery (like keeping a laptop on charge for too long)?

no

Actually leaving it charging overnight solved my seemingly poor battery problems, I was charging it to 100% then unplugging it but after 24Hrs of light use i was down to 20% However I've left it charging over night this last couple of days and today for example it's on 45% after very heavy use! :)

shouldn't be a problem, the charger should switch off or go in to a trickle charge mode.

Now I do not need task manager or Astro File because the phone comes with a pretty nice native task manager and memory eraser.

What other apps I need?

Also anyone knows of any good electronic book reader on this great phone?

Thanks.

Normal usage this weekend, no calls but a few texts. 4.5 hours screen time and no charging between (even though the battery looks like it went up a couple of times (resyncing battery stats?)

Then today, 7% battery used in hour and half thanks to gtalk_async_conn. Grrr.

lol im a numpty. Got my ps3 controller and could not get it working with NOVA. I had it all set up right but it didnt work. Then i realised I saved the link above to nova.bin instead of nova.map. Renamed it to what it should be and works fine now :)

Thanks e36Adz, and the geezer who made the file available.

That's 4.5hours screen on time? The screen on bar doesn't look like 4.5hours though! Also WiFi on is always going to result in good battery life.
