I do see the benefit of having a new thread for every deal, means you don't have to go into the main thread looking for a deal so you're less likely to miss out because you didn't bother to check.

But I also see the drawback, a new thread for every single deal? Forum would be a mess in no time, either that or we'd miss out on some deals because people will be less inclined to create a new thread than they are to make a quick post in an already existing thread.

I must admit I do miss deals sometimes when it's in the main thread however having single seperates can get messy just look at what happens with the gog thread. People post gog stuff outside of it :p

Only when it's really important such as, oh I don't know, Fallout being free and then someone comes along and RTMs it. I wonder who that was :p

I think a consolidated thread is the best but mega deals such as the free Fallout should be allowed a separate thread. Of course, what constitutes a mega deal would be largely up for grabs....

As usual, the idea for sub forums is kind of flawed unless you simply don't want people to see the threads/info.

Personally I'd be happy with people posting stuff in new threads as they find the info but the consolidated thread works surprisingly well.

edit: please don't sticky it. We're slowly creeping back towards the ridiculous situation we were in 6 months ago when there were far too many stickies.

The forumula of simply having the deals thread with the first post being a moderated list of "safe" etailers works (i.e. aside from steam/origin there is greenmangaming, getgamesgo, gamersgate, GOG and countless others which are perfectly legit/safe)

Don't see a need for a forum unless its some rule thing about posting competition

And one of my main observations is people just don't seem openminded to many places outside of steam because they aren't as big and therfor not considered "safe" when its simply not true.. and honestly if you are a more "mature" gamer, you are really missing out by ignoring the likes of GOG :)

Sub forum makes perfect sense, every deal having its own thread! Very easy to quickly check to see whats new that day and wouldn't clutter the gaming forum.

I'm sure we had this discussion before and the decision was made to go with the daily deals thread.

I know where you are coming from regarding missing some deals rather than perusing the deals thread however I've just got into the habit of checking it when I come into the games forum, which is most days.

The ideal solution would be a subforum specifically for deals which could have individual posts but not clutter up the main forum. However, subforums are extremely rare and I can't see the moderators going for it - I don't think we've had one since soon after WoW was launched?

Yeah. We seem to go round in circles with these discussions but I guess there's no harm if the general consensus of the forum shifts massively (obviously within forum rules/etc).

The daily deals thread is fine, it's always on the main page anyway due to there being so many deals out there and OcUK members being awesome at finding them!

Needs its own sub forum the Batman Arkham City deal I posted the other week where it was only £4.49 with a 10% off code from gamefly is a good example of that how many would miss it if I did not create a post just for that title (and there have been others I retaed as well recently like Fallout 3 GOTY £9.99 deal).

To be fair the Daily Deals thread acheived what it set out to do and many people seem happy to post updates in it as often as they can. Would a sub forum work any better - perhaps - up to forum admin I guess.

Oh and in the true spirit, Amazon.com are running a 1 day mega sale on PC Downloads " Gold Box Event" starting 26th June Midnight Pacific Time. Go sort those US Hotel addresses out
