Piracy - unbelievable figures.

Just cause a game is supposed to suck, it doesn't necessarily mean it will to an individual, I was going to avoid Two Worlds on the Xbox 360 a few years back because of how badly it got slated, but it had a demo so I gave it a go and enjoyed it a lot and purchased it. If I had a PC at the time, and had the game not had a demo, how would I know if I like it? Buy it and potentially hate it, knowing I've just spent £30+ on something I cannot get a refund for? No way man, if a games supposed to be ****, I'll give it a whirl anyway, if I enjoy it I'll buy it, if its what everyone claims to be then I won't, and I'll uninstall it.

Not having a demo for your game is unacceptable ESPECIALLY on the PC platform, as there's no way to tell if you can run it or not, do you just buy the game and not be able to play it?

My PC far far outspecs the recommended specs for GTA IV yet I can't even play the piece of **** above medium, it doesn't look half as good as Xbox. Therefore GTA IV doesn't deserve my money, neither did it get it and neither did it stay on my HDD for too long.

If you disagree with that, then I don't understand you at all, are you just incredibly rich and can buy any game you feel like and just lol as you through it in the bin if it sucks? You must be or else you wouldn't carry this opinion bro.

This is just ********.

No one deserves anything without paying unless it is being given away free.

While you may want a Demo to try before buying if there isnt one then you can't have a demo. Pirating it instead is not acceptable. This month I am skint, if I want a game that comes out it is not correct to just go out and download it because I can.

It is my fault I spent my money on something else and will need to wait until I have enough spare cash to buy what I want.

The excuse it might be **** and I will waste my money on it if there is no demo is also not an excuse to pirate it, instead you don't but it to ensure you don't wate your money on it. This is the same for just about anything else we buy, from trying an expensive bottle of alcohol, a movie at the cinema, an expensive meal that you haven't tried before or anything else you are buying that you aren't sure about, I tell you the times I have had a meal ina resturant and tried something else and at the end though how I wish I had my normal choice but it doesn't mean I don't have to pay the bill I do. It's a risk we choose to take but which no one is forcing us to do. if we aren't sure don't do it and spend your money on something else.

On piracy the main thing is most people that pirate would not have bought it any way so it is never a lost sale, however while this may be true it does not give them the right to have used the product. Say you wrote a book and sold it for £10 a copy and your mate said well I don't read horror books so I pirated it, read it and it was ****. is that ok, no it is not, even if he read 10% of it it is not right, you wrote it and if he wants to read any of it he pays.

One of the big issues is until you become directly affected by Piracy in whatever format you don't really care about it. Until things directly affect us then you realise how bad it is.

It's like we want this game, book, movie, song and we don't give a **** about who it affects and how but we want it and we can have it so we will and if we have to have excuses as to why then that will do for me (no demos, not sure if I like it, can't afford it etc). Society has now become a group of people that want regardless of whether they can afford it and instead justify by any means why they need it rather than saving until they can afford it.

When I was younger I used to pirate everything, bought what the odd thing but was happy to pirate the games that I could never play because there was too many and never gave a ****, then I grew up got a decent job saw the cause and effect that it had and realised I should either buy it or save up for it or go without. I had no entitlement to anything. Now I use Steam sales to pick up the stuff I am not sure about and spend wisely to ensure my money covers exactly what I want.

My children will be brought up in the same way and if I catch them pirating stuff they will have no online access and nothing to play the stuff on either. Which is where parents all fall down on, they have no idea there kids are pirating, what they are watching, seeing and downloading because they don't understand the technology whereas today's next generation (I am 41) understands it and I need to ensure my kids understands what it means and that it is not the right thing to do.

Any person that tries to justify piracy as ok needs to take a long hard look at themselves as it's taking soemthing and using it that you never paid for. When I was pirating stuff I had zero justification and I knew what I was doing was wrong and I would never come on a forum and say it was fine, i was stealing peoples stuff and this is not right.

Just need to make every game online permanently like Diablo 3.

It causes problems for legit users occasionaly, but at least pirates can't play it.

Your actually missing the point here, on the PC platform demo's shouldn't be optional, when a lot of games are a total mess with unrealistically low specifications just to force sales onto unsuspecting victims (us). You'll find that companies are screwing the legitimate customer over more than the pirates are screwing the companies.

In the end, the legit customer gets the biggest bumfiddling, so why be stupid and spend a lot of money on a product that nowhere near delivers whats promised and expected, and then you get owned with the EULA you had to agree to, to even experience the game after purchase, which gives you no power to fight against the useless product that has been forced upon you. Have you ever read one of them? They are seriously cutthroat mate.

So yes, we have more of a right to try before we buy, regardless of the method, than companies have turning actual turds into cash.

Do you not try on your clothes before you buy them? Do you not view the houses before you buy them? Test the cars before you buy them?

Need I go on? The food analogy is pathetic, once food is consumed its bloody non existent anymore, companies can revoke your right to a game if they want, in return for a full refund, but they refuse to.

How thin is the air up there?

:D

Give it a few months, there will be emulated servers. Then a few more months somebody will completely destroy the game and make it single player with HDD stored characters and stats instead of server stored.

I give it until Winter.

Even if it takes that long, it's a win for the developers rather than the pirates. The game will be long past its peak by then.

They can get cracked with emulated servers, case in question ; Assassins Creed 2.

EDIT : I wouldn't buy half as many games as I do if I hadn't played them before (via piracy), if it's a game that I don't like/think is poor I can't get a refund on it nor can I resell it (Like I could a console game with the reselling) if it's a game I generally think is good, or I've found acceptable, I'll buy them during sales. Hell, even the abysmal Alpha Protocol when pirated I played 20 minutes, figured it was rubbish, but has some interesting aspects, so picked that up during a sale.

This ^^

Companies get more money from me thanks to piracy - not the other way around.

There are games I wish i'd pirated because the company and or steam would not give out refunds, yet it was my money and the product was bad!

Red Orchestra 2 comes to mind

I recently tried out Anno 2070 via Piracy - I now own the game via steam because of it. Nothing wrong with that.

Also it filled in the gap while I didnt have the money to get it.

I will never touch that game, £35 with no demo whatsoever is bloody outrageous, I wouldn't even pirate it! :p

When it comes to Reemul I think he just climbed Everest

Personal insults just because someone has morals and decency? How mature

If a game has no demo and I'm worried it will be pants, I simply don't play it. Sure, I've been stung before (FC2), but that just makes me more cautious when buying future titles.

Next thing they will say that "Renting" a Xbox / PS3 game is destroying the games industry.
I know loads of people who rent games through Boomerang/ LoveFilm /Blockbuster .ect
But you cant rent PC games so of course piracy is going to be higher.

What's wrong with that?
I bought a game that got panned, I'd never usually buy, I could see it had a few interesting features, so bought the game.

It was the fact you slated it :p I bloody loved that game on Xbox 360, only game that offers what it does. Why the hell is that genre so lacking?

Pirating for demo purposes is reasonable I guess when there is no demo available, but if you play through the whole thing without any intent to buy it, it's evil of you.

I would agree with the 'whole piracy doesnt mean a lost sale' but I do think people who pirate games/music/movies religiously without a care in the world are *****.

The only time i would ever pirate would be early release music and 9/10 i already have the cd on pre-oreder or will buy the week it comes out. (take Netskys 2 album for instance- I had a webrip on friday, 320 dl on saturday and then my original CD arrived in the post today and I was able to listen to it in the car all weekend. no one loses out then)

.

That's a personal insult?, wow i'd hate to have actually insult someone

You really don't think that's low to actually take the internet and computer away from a child just because he downloaded a bit of music or a single game. Also the old holy preaching, I used to pirate as a kid I've seen the error of my ways i'll take everything away from my kids if they do it :o
