Just cause a game is supposed to suck, it doesn't necessarily mean it will to an individual, I was going to avoid Two Worlds on the Xbox 360 a few years back because of how badly it got slated, but it had a demo so I gave it a go and enjoyed it a lot and purchased it. If I had a PC at the time, and had the game not had a demo, how would I know if I like it? Buy it and potentially hate it, knowing I've just spent £30+ on something I cannot get a refund for? No way man, if a games supposed to be ****, I'll give it a whirl anyway, if I enjoy it I'll buy it, if its what everyone claims to be then I won't, and I'll uninstall it.
Not having a demo for your game is unacceptable ESPECIALLY on the PC platform, as there's no way to tell if you can run it or not, do you just buy the game and not be able to play it?
My PC far far outspecs the recommended specs for GTA IV yet I can't even play the piece of **** above medium, it doesn't look half as good as Xbox. Therefore GTA IV doesn't deserve my money, neither did it get it and neither did it stay on my HDD for too long.
If you disagree with that, then I don't understand you at all, are you just incredibly rich and can buy any game you feel like and just lol as you through it in the bin if it sucks? You must be or else you wouldn't carry this opinion bro.
This is just ********.
No one deserves anything without paying unless it is being given away free.
While you may want a Demo to try before buying if there isnt one then you can't have a demo. Pirating it instead is not acceptable. This month I am skint, if I want a game that comes out it is not correct to just go out and download it because I can.
It is my fault I spent my money on something else and will need to wait until I have enough spare cash to buy what I want.
The excuse it might be **** and I will waste my money on it if there is no demo is also not an excuse to pirate it, instead you don't but it to ensure you don't wate your money on it. This is the same for just about anything else we buy, from trying an expensive bottle of alcohol, a movie at the cinema, an expensive meal that you haven't tried before or anything else you are buying that you aren't sure about, I tell you the times I have had a meal ina resturant and tried something else and at the end though how I wish I had my normal choice but it doesn't mean I don't have to pay the bill I do. It's a risk we choose to take but which no one is forcing us to do. if we aren't sure don't do it and spend your money on something else.
On piracy the main thing is most people that pirate would not have bought it any way so it is never a lost sale, however while this may be true it does not give them the right to have used the product. Say you wrote a book and sold it for £10 a copy and your mate said well I don't read horror books so I pirated it, read it and it was ****. is that ok, no it is not, even if he read 10% of it it is not right, you wrote it and if he wants to read any of it he pays.
One of the big issues is until you become directly affected by Piracy in whatever format you don't really care about it. Until things directly affect us then you realise how bad it is.
It's like we want this game, book, movie, song and we don't give a **** about who it affects and how but we want it and we can have it so we will and if we have to have excuses as to why then that will do for me (no demos, not sure if I like it, can't afford it etc). Society has now become a group of people that want regardless of whether they can afford it and instead justify by any means why they need it rather than saving until they can afford it.
When I was younger I used to pirate everything, bought what the odd thing but was happy to pirate the games that I could never play because there was too many and never gave a ****, then I grew up got a decent job saw the cause and effect that it had and realised I should either buy it or save up for it or go without. I had no entitlement to anything. Now I use Steam sales to pick up the stuff I am not sure about and spend wisely to ensure my money covers exactly what I want.
My children will be brought up in the same way and if I catch them pirating stuff they will have no online access and nothing to play the stuff on either. Which is where parents all fall down on, they have no idea there kids are pirating, what they are watching, seeing and downloading because they don't understand the technology whereas today's next generation (I am 41) understands it and I need to ensure my kids understands what it means and that it is not the right thing to do.
Any person that tries to justify piracy as ok needs to take a long hard look at themselves as it's taking soemthing and using it that you never paid for. When I was pirating stuff I had zero justification and I knew what I was doing was wrong and I would never come on a forum and say it was fine, i was stealing peoples stuff and this is not right.
