The only thing stopping you creating a new character to play through with a different build is your refusal to do so as you deem it 'pointless'.

The restrictiveness of the D2 skill system had the effect of actively offering you something new in every playthrough. The openness of the D3 skill system actively encourages you to have only one playthrough with each class. You're right that the only thing stopping people replaying a class is that they deem it pointless, but this would also apply to the vast majority of computer games. What set D2 apart was that you would have to play the game hundreds of times before you could begin to consider repeat playthroughs pointless. I actually like the new skill system as I don't really have the time to play for crazy hours, but it will definitely affect the longevity of D3.

But it is pointless?

Rolling a different class fair enough, but the same class with different skills is pretty pointless when you can just switch out builds on the fly...

Question as to how Magic Find works.

Higher MF percentage = higher chance of rares dropping from Elites yes?

Also am I right in saying that the item stats are calculated once you right click? So does this mean that wearing higher magic find gear = better chance of stats or is that part completely random?

Yes to 1.

No to 2.

If that were right then in theory you could swap out all your gear to high MF stuff post battle but before you identify, which doesn't seem right so expect it's wrong!

as soon as that item hits the floor, it has already had stats attached to it. they said this when people were asking if they should save all the legendaries they get before the patch to get the buffed version. the whole identify process is just....and this is how they put it, 'opening the present'

What is the best way of getting some serious coin on this game??

I'm currently 1 or 2 bars off getting to level 60 in Act 4 Hell and the actual coin drops are not much better then they were on normal!?!?! They tend to be a few hundred at best and most of the time between 5 and 50!!

I've not picked up a single legendary item and even the rare drops (which themselves are few and far between!) are mediocre at best!

I don't think I've ever picked anything up that was above my current level (ie. something to keep hold of to use when I hit "x" level) and the stuff I can't use (specific to builds other than my monk) doesn't appear to be any good! (although knowing me, I've probably salvaged/merchanted some items that were worth tens of thousands!! ;))

I think I'm on around 400,000 coins and from the looks of the prices on the AH, I'm never going to be able to afford anything to get me through Inferno!?!?

400k should be plenty to kit you out for Act 1 Inferno if you search around the AH for a while.

Lol, you can pick up pieces with 50-60+ All Res and Vitality or Primary Stat for <10k a piece. 50k can get you a 700-800 dps 1H with a socket or a 1050-1150 2H with a socket and a semi-decent shield with 20%+ block and 60 all res for 50k. Wouldn't expect miracles but you can certainly kit yourself out for Inferno Act I for less than 400k looking at magics. Rares I didn't look for but you can probably find some good deals there too if you look for maybe ~50 primary/vit instead of just 80 vit or primary.

When you craft an item, does the character class have any bearing on what properties are given to the item?

For example, would a barbarian who crafted some shoulders have a better chance of getting Str + Vat + All Resist?

I'm enjoying this!

I'm on act 2 on nightmare, its starting to get harder now. I can't stick to one build on my barb, because its getting difficult now, I use rend, revenge and ignore pain to gain health back when fighting. However, I don't like it, I prefer full on dps, any tip folks?

I'm starting to hate the crafting system, made well over 30 6 prop crossbows, not one has been over 600 dps, at a cost of well in excess of 4 million.. Might as well just go buy one off the AH.

funny theres a guy in the US making 50mil a day from crafting lol makes you wonder if he's tellign the truth :D

Server shagged for anyone else? Just had the game lag out. But not realise it had lagged out. Couldn't even quit the game. Same thing happened to my housemate. Can't get back in either...

Edit - must have just been us :/
Both logged back in fine 5-10 mins later
