British Man, 21, Faces Death in UAE

Guy was an idiot, No the punishment does not fit the crime but you abide by the laws of the country you are visiting whether you agree with the laws or not or if the law is unreasonable or unfair is irrelevant. ESPECIALLY if they carry such high consequences.

Its a shame he is being put up for the death penalty but he was fully aware of what the risks involved in his actions, Be it selling drugs, stealing a hand bag or stealing a bag of penny sweets, we all know the consequences of our actions and these are weighed against the possibility of profit or furthering our own agenda. He took a risk and lost, no one to blame but himself and as already stated Ignorance is not an excuse.

Oh and just to clarify, I am for the death penalty but only under certain circumstances.... and this is not one of them.

Two points.

1. He should be aware of the rules before dealing.

2. The rules of that country are backwards, executing people full stop is stupid - even more so for possession of a plant.

Nobody should be executed anywhere for that, a 21 year does not deserve to lose his life over something so petty & stupid.

Wishing death upon a young man for selling a minute amount of a drug that isn't much worse than alcohol. Way to go people of the Internet.

I should clarify. I have no problem with him being jailed. After all he broke the law.

it isnt even worse. its rated as much less harmful that booze on the drug index.

very harsh sentence for such a small amount of weed. (and man, its expensive there too!)

That depends how you look at it. Selling drugs can destroy many lives as a knock on effect.

The point is that the guy must be literally retarded to have taken such a risk.

That said, I doubt he'll get the death penalty.

less than an Oz of pot will do no harm to anyone unless you are mentally unstable anyway and beer would be just as dangerous.

you seem to be classing pot in the same category as crack and heroine.

Respect the laws of a country where you are a visitor.

You mean like the Saudi/Middle-Eastern/Moroccan diplomats in London that get away with sexual assault and child molestation which would be punishable by painful death in their homeland?

In comparison diplomats from Europe were angels according to a report on crimes committed by the 23,000 diplomats in London.

One less dealer on the streets, only a good thing.

I'd happily see users of all three drugs severly punished. Also, whilst we're on it, smoking should be banned and anyone drunk and disorderly/incapable should have to do 100 hrs community service.

Executing people is not stupid. If someone raped your wife or girlfriend, I'm pretty sure you would want the same thing.

Why let them live and give them the opportunity to re offend which is usually what happens. Once that gets the fear into people, no-one will commit crimes and the world will be a better place.

As said, one more dealer of the streets.
