***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Spent 2 hours on the homescreen (mostly spent learning how to mod widgets etc and launcher differences), think I'm pretty happy with where I've gotten it. Phone itself is really great, runs nice and smooth.

Okay.. My paste function on evernote and the Internet browsers doesn't work anymore.. It doesn't give me the option to paste anymore... Anyone else have that problem too:confused:?

Basically the option to paste has disappeared from the top bar and happens to have affected every application.

Yep, download mode entered OK, connect phone, run ODIN, select file, click start... time passes... I get nervous... nothing happens! I did run ODIN as Administrator both times I tried.

I've restarted the laptop ODIN is on, and checked that Samsung USB Drivers are installed, which they are. I guess uninstall Kies and the drivers maybe? Starting to wonder if this is worth it at the moment, the wife wants her phone back and I've just factory reset it. Aaargh!

Make sure that kies isnt running in the system tray before starting. It is usually straightforward. You are selecting the file in the PDA box too right? (sorry if I am stating the obvious!).

EDIT: Is the file you downloaded a .tar file? I think inside it is a .md5 file. If so, extract the tar file to give the md5 file and choose that in the PDA box.

People are saying my voice sounds robotic a lot. Seems to happen v when I move my phone a certain way. Like when I lie down in bed.

May need to return it.

Schoolboy error! 7Zip didn't extract the .tar.md5 file, it created one with a 0kb size... I wasn't on 'Details' view so didn't see... :o

7Zip says 'Unsupported compression method for filename.tar.md5...

So... where do I get a reliable firmware? This one is from androidfirmwares.net which is linked to from XDA, so should be good...

What windows program can extract the .tar.md5 reliably other than 7zip?

Thanks for your help by the way!

My CF root came as a zip file with a .tar file in it, 7zip extracted the .tar fine but I assume it's different to a .tar.md5?

Got a link to the one you downloaded? Sounds like your download was corrupted if anything.

The 3G one I had to make and mod into 3G Watchdog's 3G switch so it would fit with the others, which are from a collection called "Project Glass" - its not an icon pack, rather just a collection of png's, so you'll probably have to use an app to use the icons.

Using Folder Organizer, I've managed to pretty much get everything i need onto the homescreen and make it look nice :D

No problem mate, I got a lot of help when I started with all this stuff, so happy to help back.

You can get the file from here:

http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=4807#

you may need to register to download, but it's free. That is a reputable site for all samsung based phones and I usually get my files from here.

You probably don't need to extract the .tar file itself, but it may be a zip then a tar. just make sure you end up with the .tar or a .tar.md5 extension and you will be fine :)

Alternatively, try choosing the actual .tar file in ODIN if you still have it, without extracting it to the .md5 first.

I had a brainwave and tried Winrar which worked! I now have a 1.1Gb .tar.md5 file. Had to pop out so will try again in a bit (typing this on my moby) - should work now with luck!

Good luck mate, I am sure it will work now. Don't forget to change that CSC code to BTU after the flash and you have 100% stock samsung goodness and will get the OTA updates as they are released. Let us know how you get on :)

£422 is a good price. How have you manage to get this price?

affordablemobiles.co.uk

£90 handset (£40 cashback through quidco)
£21.50 per month, cancel internet bolt on straight away = £15.50 per month

£15.50 x 24 months

Total = £422

It's on o2 but don't use the rubbish contract sim it comes with unless you want to stick it into a £10 nokia for emergencies only, as you do still get 100 mins and unlimited txts. :)

Flashed mine to AKOP, but would like to use some of the Touchwiz features. But really can't go back to TW, as some design features just drive me up the bend.

- Not able to skip tracks using volume rocker
- Not able to turn off vibrate with email notifications
- Getting music toggle in notifications when you plug in your headphone, but not including Google music which is what I use.

I never get vibrate with emails on Samsung ROMs and I get notification toggles for music using PowerAMP.
