What should I wear to JSA meeting?

When I was on the dole, I made sure that whenever I went down the job centre I was at least in smart casual clothing. They do interviews there from time to time and just turning up in a shirt and jeans compared to the normal trackie makes a massive difference. I remember once I was sitting, waiting to be seen and there was a couple of us dressed half decently, wheat from the chaff and all that! Makes the people at the JC at least think your trying, which is more than can be said for most down there.

Just had a look at the place on google street view, and I can see from the people outside what you lot are talking about, I think I would look out of place in any of the clothes I own.

Believe me - I had to go once, I came out feeling disgusted by the caliber of people in there. Disgusting, chav, lazy, fat, ugly, immigrant, pregnant, drunk, cum in hair, scum of the earth people.

And that's just the staff. Dont get me started on the people your be sat with waiting to be seen.

I never went back.

Dress as much as a common chav as possible. Chew chewing gum whilst breathing through your teeth.

Et viola!

New house, tv, dvd, sky subscription etc.

Dress properly and get about a tenner a week.

Terrible to make a sweeping statement like that....

Unfortunatley last time I was unemployed it was pretty much like this, just add some of w/e is the current "legal high" with everyone standing outside and a bit verbal abuse and you have yourself the Newcastle Job Centre :p

Normal clothes, you'd probably look smarter than most folks there anyway.

Regardless of the stigma attached to it (which I can understand), I think you're best off signing on anyway as that way your National Insurance stamp will continue to be paid and might avoid issues in later life, at least that's what I was always told.

Yeah, even if you don't need the money it is best to sign on for the National Insurance contributions. This could affect your pension in later life.

You should wear a sign to hang around your neck saying "I'm a scum-bag benefit leech who owns 4 cars, holidays abroad frequently to Spain & have 24 plasma televisions in each room - I also smoke 95 cigarettes a day & drink 3 bottles of scotch an hour all from the £45 a week I get from the government".

Anything else is immoral.

I went for a JSA interview, I got fully suited and booted as it was my first time out of work for more than 2 months. Wanted to make an impression. Was it recognised? No, did I feel like a ****? Yes.

Hate that, they only see you as a number and nothing more. So wear what you want.

I didn't sign on when I was out of work. I remember my Dad having a right go at me, saying I must have money to burn and so on. I didn't at the time for much the same reasons, I hated going there (as I'm sure most do) and it made me feel really depressed. Looking back I suppose it was silly of me not to as in effect I lost out on a decent chunk of money but I'm not sure I'd sign on again - depends how in need of the money I was and how long I was out of work for I guess. You are entitled to it.

So from everyone's contributions we have worked out that you need to take with you

A Bull Terrier
Crack
Alcohol
Knife
Gun
Prostitute
Plans for a Fritzl styled dungeon

as much sportswear as you can get you hands on. Wear your burbery baseball cap as car back as possible - i wanna see that peak touch the sky. for best results, pull your socks up over your tracksuit bottoms. bright white nike air trainers are a must.

I'd recommend at least twelve pieces of elizabeth duke green gold jewellery too.

Normal cloths, it's not a job interview they will have normal cloths on and so will everyone else inside the Job center.

This, I was in the same boat until a few days ago, although I'm heading in for an interview today since my job doesn't start for a month. It's hard to look less business-like than the diamond-earring tracksuited chavs that will provide you with company in the waiting room. Wear clean clothes and you're sorted.

It's rubbish, but it's an incentive to get your ass in gear so next time you go there it's to sign off, rather than face suggestions of working in burger king for minimum wage.

Even if you go normally, you will be so out of place anyway because the guy in front of you and the guy behind you typically wear trackies.
It's why I hated signing on.

Go on, this ought to be good. What a world class contribution to this thread you have made.

I'm on your side with this, but he's right. A suit makes zero difference down at the job center, and just invites ridicule. Trust me on this one.
