I currently own a Crucial M4 64GB http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-008-CR
And I like to know if I'd see a noticeable performance increase if I updated it to a Kingston HyperX 90GB ?
This is a link to the 120GB version (same spec) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-017-KS&tool=3

I'm happy with 64GB space for Win 7 Home Prem, so I'm not wanting to upgrade for the extra space.
But, sometimes to M4 seems slow.

My MoBo is a Asus P8 Z68-V/Gen 3 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-491-AS
If that makes any difference for the controller chipset.

Thank you.

In what way does it seem slow?

Things you can check:

  • Have you connected the drive to one of the Intel SATA 3 ports on the motherboard (the white ones)?
  • Do you have the SATA mode set to AHCI in the BIOS?
  • Have you installed Intel RST so that you're using Intel drivers instead of the Microsoft ones?
  • Have you enabled write back cache?

Thanks for the reply.

It just seems generally slow, slow or not that fast to load Windows, install & run software.
I've had the drive since mid 2011, and it's never felt as fast as my previous SSD (Vertex 2, that stopped working).
I've reinstalled Windows a few times since I bought, so it's not clogged up with cr@p.

Yes to all your questions.
With the latest versions of the drivers and BIOS.

on my board black is slow grey is really rubbish sata 3 and white is the creme de la creme of super speed perfection. Go with white sockets if you have them :)

ALso make sure intel rst shows link 6gbps in the menu. If your drives don't show up you're using the terrible marvell ports.

running m4 here, speeds are fine on asus z68 v pro, youve installed intel rapid storage drivers? and in ahci mode?

you wouldnt see any performance increase switching to the kingston imo

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, the Intel RST drivers are installed and the drive is showing as SATA6 in the software.
AHCI is enabled in the BIOS.

I tried swapping the drive from the SATA6 port (grey) to the SATA3 port (blue).
These are the results I got.

I know this will sound random, but in AI Suite there are power management options.

Make sure you leave this as Default or 'Off' if you can, and just let the hardware manage itself.

I had a really bad FPS / loading issue on my Gene-Z build and it turned out to be AI suite aggressively throttling and meddling with all the clock speeds.
Complete shot in the dark, but you never know!

I don't have AI Suite installed.

i think your running an older firmware, write speeds should be 200mbps,to check look in intel rapid storage console(bottom right of taskbar) click manage and it will say what version firmware

im on 000f (latest version)
