back home after the cyclone, had wind rain and hailstone out on the moors but overall a fantastic day, 7hrs 38 mins the official time just over 7 hours my time (my time = time on he bike and not recuperating at the feed stations)

absolutely knackered now !

Congratulations!

My ride didn't go quite to plan - for some reason I cramp on this route. Never cramped on any other ride but for the second year in a row I cramped 45 miles in and had to fight it off for the next 60.

It's odd - I ate obscene amounts and drank about 3 litres of electrolight fluid plus 2 litres of High5 2:1 but still cramped. Need to get it sorted for next year as it's not doing me any favours.

Missed out on silver through too many stops (punching my legs :D) but a PB nevertheless so I'm not too bothered: 6hrs 49 mins official, with 6:15 moving time according to Garmin.

I don't have an emoticon to adequately explain how I feel about this.

It just annoys me how shocking some peoples bikes are that actually compete. I feel for the people they may take out if something fails rather than the person on the bike.

I think it is starting to crack from the slot at the seat clamp as it's too tight too :(

This all from "My gears are crunching"....no ******* wonder.

Congratulations!

Gratz to you too :)

Got the Canyon today, went for a ride around Richmond Park and it was lovely. My bike was previously a hybrid and this can just sustain a much higher speed on flats, as well as being better in climbs which I guess is because of the weight.

2012+-+1

Also, there was about 4 guys in full team sky kit & helmets riding around the park on Dogma's, not sure who they were.

Nah, this is me touching my mate's freshly shaved legs and generally giving him abuse:

Murf looking smug to my left. :p

Looks like your mate didn't know where to stop shaving. :D

:p

Garmin Connect

My ride wasn't bad. Felt like a pro for the first 20 miles, and the last 15 or so. Thought I was going to die for the middle 80. Some horrific climbs in the Cyclone. Once you're over the Ryals though you can just put the hammer down and fly back. It's a great feeling hammering past all the 67/33 mile riders as well. :D

6hrs 1min on Garmin. 6hrs 16mins 14secs officially. So 15 mins of breaks. Luckily I didn't have Si's cramping. He's been destroying me all year and did so when we rode the 2nd half of this ride a few months ago.

Edit - I was knackered at the end........

I know I was slower than you two but horrific climbs ?

they were not that bad you should try the team townend challenge next year

http://www.teamtownend.org/

picture the first ryals increase the steepness and extend to double the height and you have newlands valley, extend it six times and you have half of honiston pass the other half is as steep as the second part of the ryals. And Whinlatter is like the one up and out of bellingham but steeper and twice as long.

The only upside to the towend route though is its only 40 miles :)

actually i think i have map my ride of it

now that had some horrific climbs lol I wish i was about 3 stone lighter though im sure these climbs would all be easier !

I agree with you memphisto to be fair. There's a couple in there that aren't too pleasant but nowt horrendous.

I was looking forward to the climbs personally - I didn't get cramp out of the saddle so it was a nice respite. Out of the saddle on the flat makes you look like a douche :D

lol I struggled a lot with the distance due to that being the longest ride ive done, ever.

next year should be a lot better however at over 14st the thing holding me back most at the minute is my weight so need to get down to well even 13s would be good !

More training required as well, definitely considering joining a club now as training on my own or just with my brother I dont think we push each other enough whereas with others I think we would benefit more.

PS that first 20-30 miles was like whacky races, I had the bike sideways a one point breaking, nearly got pushed into an oncoming vehicle and then had to ride like you will have through 6-8 inches of water madness !

"day off" monday
may have to go for a long ride again!
got a 30 under my belt, may have to add another 10 if I'm gonna catch you buggers up!

also does any know if/how you can stitch together two rides on strava?

Fred is on my list for next year. Not sure I'll be able to justify a week long tour with a second kid due in November so I'll be going for more sportives. Hoping to do the Wiggle Dragon ride too.

I don't do hills or 'climbing'. So anything where I'm out of the big ring is horrific. :p

Seriously, myself and Si cycled from Newcastle to Paris a couple of weeks ago and I think I clocked up more climbing yesterday than in that entire week. We did York to Peterborough which was 132 miles at an average speed of over 20mph. I've never seen roads so flat. I'd move to Peterborough in a heartbeat for the cycling if Peterborough itself wasn't there. :D
