I've been doing a load of testing with about seven video players and loads of 720p x264 encodes and 1080p H.264 remuxed from blu-ray. Impressed with this phone because with software decoding most players perform perfectly with all of it. Using the hardware decoding 1080p H.264 is problematic but every 720 x264 encode, even with reference and bframes at 16 were fine. 10bit x264 won't work in hardware, but will in most player software decodes.

Next up I'll come up with a handbrake encoding profile to best suit this phone. It's nice to know that you can software decode anything but that uses a lot more power, and larger and more challenging encodes will consume with power with hardware decoding as well. The resolution may be 1280x720 but it's a tiny screen so you don't really need that much, and you can get away with lower bitrates too. I'll experiment.

Does any one use the ICS device encryption? I was looking at ways to secure data in case of theft/loss. What is the best way of doing it?

I was thinking about setting up device/sd card encryption and SamsungDive.

Just got a SGS3 today, anyone know of anyone that has a bright coloured pixel on their screen? It's kinda like the normal colour of what it's supposed to display, but a brighter shade.

If you haven't already you could confirm your thoughts by using a display tester app off Play.

I've already tested that and it's still bright on green, white and grey. It isn't visible on red or blue though which is strange. Think I may as well get a replacement tomorrow if they still have any blue ones in stock.

Picked one of these up yesterday and glad I went for this over the 4S.

One thing bugging me at the moment is I copied all my phone contacts across on to the sim and have just downloaded the FB app and sync'd contacts over but now I have two contact listings for everyone of my phone (the sim one with their numbers and their FB one). Is there a simple way to merge the two?

Anyone having an issue with the stock weather widget on the SGS3??. ive noticed a few times that my location wont update even when i press update...i have to go into edit and untick current city then re-tick it in order for it to get my location.

I have it set to auto refresh every 3 hrs but sometimes it wont even auto refresh even though i have full reception.

Just wondering if this is a bug or could it be due to my handset being rooted??.

If you were planning on getting drunk, that's possibly the worst possible time to remove your case.

Still, it may have cracked anyway...

Not all is lost, you can replace the screen... looks a little bit tricky tho

Eek, not sure id be comfortable doing that, probably prefer to get it done professionally. Problem is i've marked the external casing too, sigh.

It happens on widgets etc when changing orientation. Thought everyone got it?

APEX. Quite frequently i will press the Home button from within an app and the screen will go black and it will take like 5secs+ t re-draw my homescreen. It is just making the phone feel really slow .

I will go back to touchwiz i think and see how often it happens on there.

That would be an Apex issue. Nova launcher fixed their redraw issue. I'm using touchwiz and don't have a redraw issue, but the odd times some widgets take a split second to appear.

Ok thanks. I will give nova a go and see what happens. i dont mind if the widgets take a split second to appear but the screen going black and it taking more than 5 seconds to reload stuff is rubbish!

I'm using the latest version of Nova prime and i'm still getting redraw, so I'm sure it's related to the firmware not the launchers.

It's not just an Apex issue. I've personally had it on Touchwiz, and people have reported having it on most launchers.
