Hi guys

which one should I buy and why?

I will be using with Asus P8Z77-M Pro Intel Z77 and i7-3770K

Both around the same price so I'm not sure which one to buy.

I will be using for CAD, photo editing, surfing, word and excel etc. No gaming as its office workstation.

I think the OCZ vertex 3 is fastest but had firmware issue which now seam to be improved.

Samsung 830 is very reliable but slower than OCZ.

Curcial M4 seams the worst of the 3 but what do I know.

Any help is very welcome, so many reviews i'm confused

Nope, drives are exactly the same I believe, just the accessories are different. If your case has drive trays/bays that support 2.5" drives then you are fine. Or you might need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter.

Only my opinion... but all the drives mentioned are decent in their own right, I doubt if you would be disappointed in any one of them. In day-to-day use, I'd be surprised if you would notice any difference (other than in benchmarks). One of the reasons why I'm hesitating myself in upgrading my generation 2 drive to one of the "latest and greatest".

That makes it the cheapst of the 3 by a few quid.. I will be using it in a silverstone tj08-e so a 2.5 will fit in the bottom bay or I can mount it behind the motherboard.

So it uses same power and sata leads? sory if a stupid qestion I know nothing about apples...

I think you may well be right... I'm thinking maybe the samsung might be best not he fastest but it look to be one with less issues as built from the ground up.

TBH ... The Samsung is probably the one that I would go for. The only -ve comment that I've seen anywhere myself, is that someone said "their support was not up to much". While I can't comment on their SSD support/ RMA process, I did recently have to RMA an F3 1TB and it that took little more than 10 days from start to finish.

Good luck whatever you decide.

PS. Like a lot of PC components, "you pays your money and takes your chance".
For example.... The Vertex 2 drives came in originally for a fair bit of "stick". But I've had one pretty much since they came out and have had zero problems with mine and it's not even on the latest firmware (if it aint bust, don't try to fix it... that's my motto). Just benchmarked it (out of interest), not done it for a year+ and it appears to be performing pretty much as per spec / day one benchmarks that I originally ran. Though I maybe should comment that I use mine pretty much just as a "boot drive", everything else is on HD's.

The reviews I read said the M4 was a bit quicker than the Samsung.

Even if that is the case at the 250gb size I'd get the Samsung as it's cheaper and you'll never notice the speed difference under normal use.

I think after doing some reading the eailer firmware has been and issue on the M4 and Vertex 3 but that now seams fixed.

Samsung seam to have got it right off the bat.

I dont think there is much between them not enough for me to notice in use anyway.

So I guess I might as well get the cheapest...

I just got a vertex3 240gb but apparently my motherboards 'SATA3' is more of a marketing gimmick than a real thing, its barely faster than sata2; at least i should see another speed boost when i do finally get a true sata3 mobo.
