Failure to stop

So I have just had an 'incident' or 'RTC' as the police called it where the driver has failed to stop. Essentially I was 'edging' out with my indicator attempting to join very slow moving traffic and this one gentleman wasn't happy about it.

My indicator was on and both my front and back wheels were in the lane. He decided then to squeeze me out of the lane by going inbetween me and the other car in the right lane scratching both my front and back wheel arches and knocking my wing mirror off.

I attempted three or four times to get him to stop, but he refused and just hurled abusive language. I manged two snapps of the car and a video identifying the driver (at the end he was smiling and laughing at me?!) but I'm usure whether to mention to the police that I have these as they could use them against me?

I have reported the incident to the police as a failure to stop, and they are coming to interview to me tomorrow morning at work. Will I be under caution? I'm obviously nervous, and have never been involved in anything like this before.

All thoughts welcome...

Pretty quick thinking if you managed to get him on video TBH. Surely you can use that as evidence? Does the footage or do the pictures show the car during the incident of after? Any witnesses?

Your fine, why would you be under caution? You weren't the one who drove away!

Show the video aswell, if you want to use it as evidence of the drivers identity.

Why did you continue to force yourself into the lane when it was clear he wasn't going to let you in?

That may be, but the other person has failed to stop for a rtc. Theres too many people on the roads who think driving is personal, and their car is an extension of their body.

It's very unlikely you'll be interviewed under caution as you are a witness. Do you have his reg number, if so have you spoken to your insurance company? I'll be honest, The other guy might get a driver improvement course, but don't expect much more than that.

I got one 'bad note', for basically the same reason. He classed it as "Major" because the lights changed to orange when I was already in the middle of the junction (Not stopped, moving to the exit).

That was it though. Don't understand how people get so many minors. It's not exactly hard? Unless you haven't done enough lessons?

I have his Reg and have given it to the police over the phone. I would recognise him in a line up if needs be. I have not spoken to my insurers yet. I genuinely don't want the other bloke to get into any major trouble / get banned etc (unless he has previous). I just want him to realise that he committed a serious crime and have his hands slapped. He was most likely having a bad day...maybe I'm being too nice

Isn't taking videos without permission illegal or something? Or am I thinking of something else?

Out of interest what car was this person driving? Must be nuts to not only damage someone elses car but his own too.

I don't get what happened.

You and another car side by side at a T-junction waiting to join another road and the third party tries to sueeze down the middle of you?

Did you get the video while driving while holding a mobile?

He hasn't committed any crime let alone a serious one, he has committed a road traffic offence tho ;)

As Burnsy says its likely you will just give a statement and then Police will visit the other driver, with no witness its down to your insurance companies to argue who was at fault - he may get words of advice or a course if he holds his hands up
