Scientology - Who's really mad

If there's definitely something we should all agree on, it's that we should live and let live. These guys are a strange bunch but they're more than free to act like a strange bunch.

Indeed...as long as they are also not mistreating or exploiting their adherents illegally.

I live in the town where scientology UK headquarters are they contribute to the town and leave people alone, not bad really everyone has their beliefs let them get on with it, its not as if Christianity is whiter than white.

Grinny aka East Grinstead :) ?

Like I said....learn a bit about it first, A Thetan isn't an alien exactly, more the personification of a Universal Force, and the material Universe itself only exists because those personifications say it does...so effectively they believe that Humans are an empty vessel in which an amnesiac non-corporeal expression of the Universe which dreams the Universe into existence (even though it is amnesiac) resides.....

They effectively are implying that our spiritual self (Thetan) is in fact an expression of God who has forgotten that they were a God in the first place.

Very much sounds like some of the religions we can think of ;)

I'm surprised that a cult that maintains itself by intimidation is still legal.
Thank god Katie Holmes woke up and got away from the massive nutcase Tom Cruise.

Really though when you think about it, Scientology is no more bizarre than the basis for any other religion. :o

The rest are just more popular.

Christianity / Islam etc - Invisible Gods in the sky.
Scientology - People that live on Earth are reincarnated aliens who used to live on other planets.

Forget about the origins of each. But if you were asked what was the more likely scenario, what would you say?

Which is the crazy religion now?

A very comprehensive, in depth comparison followed by a broad generalised question. Ok.

FINALLY someone gets it.

There is no difference between the far-fetched deities of Scientology and any other theistic religion. Loads of people I know laugh at Scientology but don't see the similarities between it and any other religions, even when pointed out.

And Judaism, Christianity and Islam haven't?

Well consider how massive those religions are, you are bound to expect a few but Scientology has had over 100 murders in a relatively small religion.
Not only this, they have pretty much slave camps as well, there isn't a religion that has much corruption as Scientology imo. And recently those three religions have been quite clean, well at least compared to Scientology.

Not really.

And why do you refer to yourself as "we". Are you the Queen?

IYoga a number of parallels with Scientology are evident. Yoga offers a system of metaphysical knowledge leading to 'rebirth to a non-conditioned mode of being.' The aim of the earliest philosophy of Yoga, samkhya, was to dissociate the spirit from matter. In Yoga the world is real not illusory, but its endurance is the result of the ignorance of spirit.... The source of the soul's suffering is held to be man's solidarity with the cosmos, his participation in nature (the enturbulation of theta and MEST) [i.e., what Scientology calls the physical universe of matter, energy, space, and time (Hubbard, 1975: 248)] (Wallis, 1976: 112, quoting from Eliade, 1969: 4).
Need I draw comparisons with Buddhism and the Vedas? The concept of reincarnation, for example.

Concerning the latter I was referring to myself and Castiel etc

People being led and controlled by disgusting hierarchical systems that have been formed by wilfully deceiving people is not a new thing, our society promotes it - It's just more death of the individual. People are too willing to give up their freedom because of fear.

No.
People appeased Hitler with a live and let live approach.
Perhaps a bad example, but I do disagree with your blanket statement that we should all agree to live and let live.

Godwin's Law in action I see.
Scientology being compared to the Nazis, that's a rather extreme argument. You expect the scientologists to start rounding us unbelievers up into death camps? :p

I confess i don't know anything about Scientology apart from what castiel has put in this thread but i'm of the opinion of how is it any different to any of the numerous other religions that currently exist apart from the obvious age difference.
