So the insurance renewal came through and my insurance has dropped quite a bit, from £220.51 to £118.46 a month. Quite a saving really, even though it is still expensive I am going to aim to get it cheaper by doing quotes etc.

Does anyone know if Admiral pricematch? So if I found a quote cheaper elsewhere I could go back to them and they will lower the price? - I do like Admiral as they have been easy to use and helpful.

If it's not a million quid cheaper then it's worth a punt. Phone them and say you've found a cheaper quote and would they be willing to match. If not, throw your toys and tell them you're going elsewhere, that should get them to be a bit more flexible.

I can't see why any insurance would price match. Their perceived risk is what they quote you. Just because someone else thinks differently I can't see them changing their mind. I might be wrong though.

The admiral group is very large though so sometimes you can save on your quote and still get a very similar level of cover.

Good luck.

Look at the prices for paying it off in one lump instead of monthly, can sometimes have huge savings. If this is the case, then whack it on a credit card and pay that off monthly (or in one lump) instead.

Admiral will pricematch with only some companies. Try online with the paying in one go option, also call up Admiral, they knocked mine down from 595 to 480 just from calling up!

Of course they will do a degree, my renewal came in at £1550ish and I ended up paying £926 because I batted between admiral and a handful of other providers. There will become a point that they won't go any lower but you should be able to wangle a better price than the initial renewal price.

The price they quote you is perceived risk + £££profit, normally plenty of wriggle room.

Many insurance companies will also allow you to pay in three installments for a one of charge of approx £15.00

So assuming your premium is about £1100, over 3 payments it would be approx £370 over 3 months, so you'd be skint for 3 months, but then the next 7 months (assuming your using 10 month accelerator) you will have plenty of additional cash. :D

Phone up, mention this, they may even be able to beat it. Have you tried a new quote with Admiral? Chances are that it will be cheaper than the renewal quote.

Get a quote from Admiral pretending to be a new customer and it will almost certainly be cheaper than their renewal, and they will match it.

Might as well get a CC for it, not skint and saving money.

They normally price match my quotes !

I was going to do it in one lump sum.

What is Insurance Premium Tax and Credit Charge?

I guess Credit Charge is the charge for doing it monthly? Which is £87.79, so if I pay it all off without doing it monthly I will save £87.79 but I have no idea what the £61.97 Insurance Premium Tax is?

That £61.97 will be going off to HMRC.

Most insurers, specifically Adrian Flux, will often match or beat quotes from elsewhere.

I recently moved from a Category C postcode to a Category B and my premium is half that of last year (23, 6 years NCB in August). And I've not even spoken to Flux yet so will be more than willing to get a haggle on the go.

Edit: Shock Horror, Flux were still £350 off.

Try adding your mum to the policy as a named driver, see if that changes it at all.

Also, check this site for tweaking your job title for the cheapest quotes

It'll take about 20 minutes if you hammer through them.

I highly recommend creating a new email address to do this! (to stop spam) and use a fake phone number. If you take out a quote, update your email&phone number when confirming the details

I find Admiral give the best quotes for me.

Always call whichever company you pick, sometimes they can knock more money off

Posted this just the other day with a bit of a rant about insurance companies.

I got quoted for a renewal with Admiral, put the phone down, waited for five minutes, phone them back lying that I had managed to find it for cheaper elsewhere (£50 less) and they matched my fake quote without hesitation.
