About to buy Audi A4 - Questions

You need to consolidate your posts!

I'm failing to see why you want Quattro so much, it means lower mpg and isn't worth bothering with.

I'd have gone with a 3 series personally, they have all of those options, but then I am biased.

It is hard to find one with cruise control, heated seats, and arm rest for under 10k.

missions. I guess I should prioritise cruise control and arm rest most important.

As these are a fairly easy retrofit and if you are bothered abother heater seats find one with the heated seats and fit others after.

Just had a quote from an Audi dealer of £145 fitted for cruise control, but could be fitted yourself and just get it dialed in at a specialist of main dealer.

Owning a VCDS (VAG-COM) cable is a must if you are a VAG car owner. Then you can code 99% of things yourself (bar a few components that have component protection on more modern cars).

Grab a cable, go nuts :)

What do you code? I'm interested in this!!

Mines got an arm rest but I almost always keep it up - its in the way when you pull the handbrake. I have it up so often its odd having it down so useless to me.

I have cloth so no heated seats. Not something I miss to be honest but I know some get hung up with leather.

Mine does have BBS CH wheels which were an option but I've not seen any other B7s with them.

A guy on Audi Sport forum sells the computer cable thing for £250. At some point I want to add puddle lights and will need to plug in a lappy.

One thing though with the RNS-E - from the factory the DVD won't come out - stops it getting pinched. This needs coding out. Mine comes out, my mums doesn't.

If you can avoid get one with a black pack. The chrome IMO looks a bit naff. Have a friend who is going to wrap the chrome in mat black.

Patience.

I was in a similar situation with regards to an A3. Most were going for £10-11k with little or no specification inside the car. I waited a good couple of months a beautiful gem popped up on a Friday afternoon.

£9000, low mileage, 170bhp, full Audi service history, immaculate condition and it was from Stratstone, so pretty much a main dealer. It came with cruise control, bose soundsystem, front armrest, rear parking sensors, Audi bluetooth, Audi phone cradle, privacy glass, full leather and half a tank of fuel :)

The hilarious thing is that I was dead set on putting a deposit down on one for £10500, which had far less specification and it wasn't from Stratstone!

Just wait, it'll pay off.

what is BBS CH?

what do u mean by black pack?

Sorry.

The usual 5 spoke S Line wheels are made by Ronal. Mine are made by BBS and are the CH design.

But mine don't say Motorsport on them.

Black pack (AFAIK) is the term for not having the chrome trim around the windows.

I don't like the chrome and it can go funny if some type of polish is put on it - can't remember the details but when it was last valeted the lad said its blotchy becuase of some product or other.

This is lovely IMO

wow looks amazing!!! :)

is it fsi or diesel?

u must be impressed with that
got any other general advice about buying this type of car?

Just to confirm - those pics are for reference and not mine. I would post a pic but its dirty :)

Well mine is diesel and I usually get 45mpg - its been mapped and is a bit quicker and the mpg is about the same as it was before. Its a 170TDI which has a DPF - the 140 doesn't. The DPF can give problems.

The TDI engine isn't as reliable as the old 1.9TDI but it IMO it isn't the unexploded bomb the internet would have you believe. You need to think how many of these cars are sold and how many have failed. That said the design of certain parts is weak - the oil pump on the older A4s can fail and take the engine out. Later cars would appear to be better but not cured 100%.

If I'm honest, I don't know much about the petrol engine. Some say it will give 40mpg but I'd like to see it do that constantly. I would assume it will be more like mid 30s. The 170TDI just isn't that economical and my mums 140 is auto and does a bit better on average. Her old A4 with the 1.9 130 would do mid 50s easy.

Petrol Vs Diesel is up to you. I would love to have a month with an FSI and then decide which I wanted to keep. I'd be interested to know what the trade in value of mine would be compared to the PH car I linked.

If you get the 170TDI, Audi have a free recall of the injectors.
