In this case Nick is kind of right. Cleverley has potential that is all, he's been overhyped to the extreme since his injuries last season as 'United's midfield saviour' He's still got everything to prove, especially if we sign no-one else in midfield.

No one is saying that he is a midfield saviour but before he was injured, he was playing very well and we were playing a great style of football with him.

At the start of the season we were butchering teams. He may not have played well for the rest of the season but from what we saw, he looks good and Fergie thinks so too.

There is always a balancing act to keep good youngsters and the club and I think that Fergie sees Cleverly as one of the main stalwarts in United midfield over the coming years. If we buy another 2 midfielders, the young players will get little opportunity.

I know Pogba has been a bit of a gimp about his exit but I don't blame him that much. He is at an age and ability that he could have regular first team football. Its just a shame we didn't loan him out for a season to give him that.

of course that is true - the difference (which Nick G's comment doesnt allow for ) is that TC has had a handful of games over one season in Utd's first team, and Anderson has 145 apps over the last few years - and (arguably) TC is already at the same level and still a few years younger

.

Not so sure about this, given the amount of games Utd play every season - there is definitely enough games for Kagawa, TC, Carrick, Scholes (to fade out), Powell(to fade in), plus at least one if not two more midfielders

Not to mention the likes of Tunnicliffe , Cole and a couple of other youngters who might be a year or two away from 1st team places (on a permanent basis)

This does depend what formation SAF wants to use of course, but there is a lot to suggest he will rely more on 4-3-3

Which alone is more than Anderson has so no Nickg is wrong. Again.

We're being linked to Fernando Llorente now via reports in Spain.

Wouldn't make much sense really because of Welbeck, even though I think Llorente is definitely better.

the sort of player welbeck could learn off tho, be decent in the premiership as well.

just a question of price, think city were quoted summat daft like £30m ?

Llorente would be a great buy for United if we can offload Berbatov. Welbeck could do with a couple more years of being a second string striker in my view. Llorente and Rooney up top with Welbeck or Hernandez to come on as a sub.

There is also Park who might get a midfield role at times.

Currently we have

Kagawa
Park (Shouldn't be anywhere near a United shirt)
Anderson (Injured and future uncertain)
Fletcher (Illness but still on the books)
Carrick
Cleverly
Scholes (Will retire at end of next season)
Powell
Phil Jones (maybe)

Some of the above won't get much playing time but thats still 10 players that can play in the centre of midfield. I don't doubt that we need another central midfielder but I do doubt whether Fergie would put down the funds required for a top quality midfielder unless it is someone we really want.

I can't shake the feeling that we will make do again this year and hope we don't have the same level of injuries as last year. We have a lot of "bit part" players that won't be about too much longer but they are still there at the moment and we would raise our wage bill quite a lot if we don't cull some of them.

Look at his reasoning too, apparently one headed goal (well taken as it was) is enough these days to outweight 18 months worth of being rather **** :o.

as potential is greatly unquantifiable how can you say with any certainty. do you not remember Anderson's early days of fabregas in the back pocket and being hailed as one of the best wonderkids ? its only injury that has slowed his progress down.

Pranjic will arrive in Merseyside over the weekend to discuss terms and undergo a medical subject to agreeing to sign for Everton

I remember Anderson having a couple of very good games in his debut season, I also remember United fans massively overplaying those performances and massively over hyping him. 5 years later only the deaf, dumb and blind would continue to pin any hope on Anderson.

look not trying to go off topic but a few impressive games is all cleverly has had so what are you basing you whole argument around? to me cleverly has just been as oversold.

i can't remember who said it but they said it best, 'cleverly gets better with every game he doesn't play's..

I left Park (and Giggs) out for a reason:)

Giggs may well play a part given his history with the club (although last season he was pretty poor). Park was woeful as well, and should retire (he has said in the past he will retire once he leaves Utd) or go off into the sunset.....although he might have one year left on his contract, Im not sure though

1) TC is a homegrown player
2) He was free (rather than £17-25m Anderson cost depending on the report you read)
3) He got a bad injury after a handful of performances (all of which were at a good and consistant level) in his first season for the 1st team. Not 4 or so seasons of inconsistant / injury filled seasons like Anderson (who has also caused the club bad press lets not forget)

Yes he needs to have an injury free season, and yes he needs to continue to improve. However he still doesnt deserve to be labeled alongside Anderson either
