RvP not renewing his Arsenal contract.

EDIT:

Robin van Persie has announced he will not be extending his contract at Arsenal, with a statement on his official website reading: "I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions."

Interesting! Arsenal are going to find it hard to turn down any £30m~ offers now. Mancini will surely fancy a bid.

No shock there, at least he's had the decency to come out and say it now rather than drag it out. Arsenal have to sell, it would be madness to keep him if they receive bids of £20m or above.

So many other offers from abroad more than likely to pour in, cant see RvP or Arsenal wanting him playing for a direct competitor

Yeah, abroad would make more sense.

Can Juventus afford £25m+? I have no idea.

PSG will probably be keen to put a big bid in as well, and keep raising it without a care in the world. :o

That's what you get Arsenal for sticking by an injury plagued striker. Loyalty.

Yeah, I think he's being a bit idiotic really. Arsenal can mount a top 3 challenge next season if they get a couple more players (not necessarily huge names).

Man, the one season they start off making some promising signings and he does this. He's had one good season (He's always been class but out injured most of the time).

He has royally done one to Arsenal. If he isn't signing, why would anyone bid this year, when he goes for free next? :( If someone offered £30m I would snap their hand off at that very instant.

PSG or Juventus please. I can't see him coming to us.

Good player but no better than what we have and with it looking like none of them are leaving and having a really exciting looking player in Guidetti it doesn't add up.

Que Arsenal fans calling him a mercenary, ungrateful and so on. Rather than like the last 3 that have left which have left to better themselves financially and their careers.

You guys aren't looking at the full quote:

This is an update for the fans about my current situation. I have kept quiet all this time out of respect and loyalty for the club and as agreed with Mr. Gazidis and Mr. Wenger, but since there is so much speculation in the media, I think it is fair for you guys to know what’s really going on at the moment.

As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr. Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.

I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch. I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last 8 years.

As soon as Mr. Gazidis is back from his 2-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments.

Robin van Persie

Loyalty is a two way street, players that can't cut it get binned off in no time so it's not as if clubs stand by their players no matter what. It's strange how loyalty is only mentioned when it's the player that wants to instigate the move.

He's 29, he's just watched Nasri and Clichy go to City and win the league, he's been at Arsenal for a long time at this point, can't blame the guy for thinking now is the time to move if he wants to be in a side capable of winning things rather than a side capable of nearly winning.

I couldn't see that full quote, his site isn't loading. :o

Doesn't change much though without details.

If Torres went for £50m RvP is worth at least more screm him, screw city at £30m hope his glass leg comes back to haunt him when wenger spent years nursing him

Years left on the contract is key.

Indeed.

Realistically, £30m is the max you'll get in my opinion. Generally it could be a bit less but the 'money to burn' clubs will have a bit of a bidding war over it I imagine.

Arsenal won't turn that sort of figure down. Especially when they have Giroud who looks extremely good, as well as Podolski.
