***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

It's only one small vibration when you come back to the device and pick it up! :D

Yeah, would annoy me I think. "You don't say, I have a notification?!?!? I KNOW I DO!"

Aside that, my phone is always face up when on a desk (why on earth wouldn't it be) and the little flashy light tells me I have a notification waiting :)

Stick with a Samsung based touchwiz ROM if you want to keep those features and do some of the below or flash a stock JB ROM and do some of the below :p

Just use titianium backup or the built in ICS system to disable/freeze apps.

Is turn over to mute not a standard thing on every android phone? All the HTC devices have this and have since the hero/desire days.

Nope. Entirely dependant on the phones

As linked above use Iseeyou app to mimic the smart stay feature. I am sure will see the other stuff in apps soon as well.

You know what, I will try Iseeyou and report my findings on it. Maybe it will be just as good as SmartStay

You can achieve a similar result for the notification power widget (not scrolling though) using the app called notification toggle.

Touchwiz had a scrolling bar for a while and it's the main reason why I didn't bother ROM'ing in the first place. I've had it on my Milestone for such a long time now that when I see a phone without it, I think 'urgh' It's also available for plenty of other ROMs not just Cyanogen and actually there might a launcher app that does it too...

Just use a 3rd party launcher from the market, apex or nova or go

If rooted with a deodexed ROm, flash a stock ICS/JB theme.

Job done! :p

What about all the other motion stuff? The JB stuff like Google Now? :p

Seriously Nexus, you need to have a go. The S3's bells and whistles are actually truly useful half the time!

Sorry but I think I will wait until JB ROMss start to come about that keep the S3 features. ICS is just a place holder now!

WHY U USE BLUE TEXT!?!?!?!

:p

You can also get the pro version of Iseeyou app, which allows you to adjust the times i.e. how often it checks to see that you are still looking at the mobile. I was a bit hesitant at first trying it out due to all the poor reviews but it works great on my 1S, from what I can gather it also works very well on the GS 2 so it should on the GS 3 as well.

As for the other motion stuff, I have no idea :p I imagine that there are a few apps out there that cover some of the stuff, but I am just not aware of them :p

I think this is a better alternative to smart stay personally:

Google now has already been ported to devices :p Only the voice feature isn't working, I am sure that will be solved soon enough though.

I can't see there being any stock JB ROMs that will have Samsung features any time soon.

I have had a quick go with the GS 3, not used all the features though, but personally for me they aren't useful and no better IMO than the other alternatives, I like the smart stay feature, however, it is pointless for me as the main time that I would need it, would be at night time (lying in pitch black in bed reading web sites etc.) but due to the nature of the camera, it won't work in that condition, and I am happy with manually locking the device myself or tapping the screen every now and then within 30 secs for now :p Also quite like some of the gesture based stuff.

The turn over to mute feature, I have on my 1S (stock sense ROM), but never use it, if I don't want to speak to someone or can't I just reject them :p I actually think you can change it on sense so when the mobile is flipped over the incoming call is hung up instead and a message saying whatever you want e.g. "sorry can't talk in a meeting" will be sent automatically to the caller that you just rejected (need to check this again to be sure though)

Personally don't like notification toggles in the notification area, I just have switchpro widget on the homescreen.

EDIT:

Just flash a touchwiz JB ROM that has the JB theme and freeze all the apps you don't need using titanium.

Noticed something odd with my screen, I can only notice it if I'm in a really dark room and the screen is all black. There's an area the size of a 5p coin that looks like someone has scribbled black marker on. I can't notice it when using it most of the time but it's a bit annoying. Do I have to take this one back and get another?

I have no intentions of using it :p

I use my phone when it is lying flat on the table as well, so it wouldn't really work for me.

I just think that it is a better method for keeping the screen on and turning off than the smart stay feature :)

No matey, a lot of us have that problem, myself and mrk included. Its something to do with amoled screens apparently so if you trade it you may find you get one even worse.

It's really not that bad, just seems like someone scribbled on a part of my screen with a translucent marker on a little patch. Tried to photograph it but it's neigh on impossible to capture. Also when I tap near the top of the screen there's a slight rattle from the earphone area, again not bad but noticeable enough.

quick question as i will be going into town on saturday to hopefully buy my S3, but in my last bit of researching ( and this thread has been a huge help) i read that the S3 uses a micro sim as opposed to the normal sim card im using now, i dont fancy buying a "cutter" from ebay for something im only going to buy once, so im wondering will O2 be able to change my sim card to a micro sim?

I must say i am more than happy with my GS3 got the ICS nexus theme so certainly looks very neat!, also am using the full benefit of allshare works a treat with streaming media from my PC + Samsung TV + GS3 :D

Cutters are easy, but O2 can provide a sim.

I just nipped into town & had my normal sim cut down at one of the local phone shops for a quid...not worth the hassle of buying your own cutter as I guess they'll all be micro's before long anyway. I asked him for the surplus from the original sim too and refitted the micro into the 'hole' so I could still use it in my S2 untill the S3 came the next day....
