Gaming PC - £800 - BF3

Excuse my ignorance but things I cannot see factored into above suggestions are : O/S, sound card and network connection. For O/S I pressume I have to stump up for: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050). ??.

For sound and Network also separate or are they built into Mobo ?.

Thanks again, just want to cover all angles.

+1 but i would switch the hdd for this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-009-CR&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=1427 load your os/bf3 etc and make do until you can afford to buy a hdd otherwise if you do it other way round you will have to do fresh instal of windows.

My option would send you £25 over budget but less hassle in the long run.

Some good points, i think i will either go with just SSD to start or stretch myself and get HDD also. Certainly would not want to re-install.

Last thought going through mind is future proofing of mobo, do the ones suggested mean that to a point i will be ok for better Gpus and Cpus shold they come along ? Or just best to go with whats best for today.

thanks again all, fabulous sight with decent people.

The only CPU upgrade you could ever do would be a i7.

For GPU's the mobo won't matter, unless yo want to go SLI / crossfire, then you would need to switch to for example, the Z77X-D3H, and a more powerful PSU (750W recommended).

For SSD space, I used to put BF3 on SSD along the OS and software, and had plenty of space left.

If you already have a geniune copy of windows 7. Then don't buy another copy, i registered my old copy on my new machine and it worked fine, saved myself £80!

If it doesnt work, you have 3 months trial to sort yourself a new copy. What have you got to lose?

But also make sure its a 64bit Version on your Laptop phil. or you cant use all your 8GB ram.

I wouldn't bother with an SSD for now, this just me but anything less than 500GB is pointless in my option.
Speed wise yes there great but for BF3 you not going to notice it, look when we play with scott he dont load much quicker than us and just to sit there longer looking at round count timer lol.
Go with a good 7200 RPM HDD 1TB or 2TB and if needed save and switch to an SSD where prices become acceptable.

I own the 2TB version of this drive http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-257-SE Its superb, I load windows up from cold boot in 40 secs, an SSD would get you maybe 15-20secs, loading of apps you not going to see its real benefit unless you start running programs like video or photo editing software.

this my drive http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-255-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1955

Thanks mate, think will give SSD a miss (for now). Do not have copy of windows 7 which is a pain (only have it pre-installed on work machine - which is 64bit). So have no other choice other than to buy it I guess.

Will look at the HDD you have suggested, i think 1TB will be fine but as 2TB is only 20 quid more silly not to.

Thanks again all (and Frankie)...
