but utd already had a good squad due to historic spending and were able to maintain position spending 30-40 million when necessary.

city had to play catch up. they didn't have a decade to grind their way up slowly. so what else were they to do to become competitive quickly?

Pranjic and Rodellaga will both be done after the weekend.

Most active team in the window and £0 spent! Awwww yeaaahhhh!

I don't think people are saying they could have done it in a different way but you can't deny that you have bought the league title when you spend hundreds of millions over a few seasons.

United haven't always spent big and nor have a lot of the other teams around the top of the table historically. Winning competitions allows you to spend money you have earned rather than money that is given by a rich owner. Its much more of an organic route to dominance but once you get to a point, the main competitors are self sustaining and make it very hard for anyone to challenge the status quo.

I have no real issue with what City have done bar the effect it has had on transfer fees. I want english football to be strong in europe and Man City are going to be a large part of that over the coming years which is a good thing. I just think that once you have hit the big time, its good to reign in the spending which is what City seem to be doing at the moment. I'm sure that over the next few years, City will become profitable once they offload the deadwood and reduce the wage bill generally across the squad.

Rooney - £30m
Ferdinand - £30m
Berbatov - £30m
Carrick - £18m
Nani - £17m
Anderson - £17m
Jones - £16m
Bebe - £7m (lol ;))
Hernandez/Evra/Vidic/Smalling - £28m
De Gea - £18m
Young - £18m

That's just people in the current team/around now (it would be possible to talk about past spending, too). Some figures will be a tad out, but I'm on my phone... so close figures'll have to do! The point being that Manyoo's current team cost an awful lot of money.

Of course it did. We have won a lot of trophies over the last 8 or so years with some of these players. Half of those you named have been with us for years and yet we still haven't spent as much as City.

I didn't say that United hadn't spent a lot of money simply that City have done it in a very short space of time completely through outside financing. I don't know all the details but since the Glazers took over, we have managed to do pretty well even with a huge debt to service. When so much is taken out of what you earn through success, its a little silly to say that United still buy success in the same category as City.

Bit of transfer news...
Nir Biton to City is nearly done. Complete unknown to many but he looks decent on YouTube and we have been tracking him for nearly a year now so he must have something. Really impressed during his trial also.

Will come on the pre-season tour and then be loaned out so he can get a work permit.

Is Duncan Castles reliable? It's just Spurs have "nearly signed" this guy for the last 2 months!!

We have... Well at least everything our end has been done - the hold up has been a sell on clause that gave vertonghen 15% (might have been 10, but thats irrelevant) of any transfer fee over a certain amount - I believe Ajax were not going to give him all of it and he objected..

Van Persie's "friend" John Cross at the Mirror says he has his heart set on a move to Juventus.

Will be a great signing for Juve. If Pirlo carries on his euro form him and RvP could be awesome.

more rumours of a double deal with Fellani joining Man Utd with Baines

they are both at their perfect level, leave them be Fergie

Seems like there are Utd representatives in Portugal and Brazil for targets (but wouldnt be surprised if neither arrived) - just as likely Utd are talking to Porto about Anderson moving rather than Utd acquiring a player lol

French media are reporting that Spurs have bid 15m Euros for Hugo Lloris, and OM want €20m.

Would be a smart move for them I think.
