Drama in the air! Postman

Don't see why the post officer should have to be in fear of injury from a clearly untrained dog.

Clearly untrained? So, because she rushes to the door she is untrained?

Do you own a dog? Is a dog untrained because it chews a stick? What a stupid comment.

I just stuck a sticker on the door after popping to pets world. Hopefully he will see this tomorrow.

He said he wants the dog put down, even though the dog was fine with him once the door was open. It's not unfair at all to report him.

It makes no difference if there is any chance of the dog biting him, his attitude towards customers is enough of a reason to report him on its own.

She isn't rushing to the door, in your own words shes snatching and damaging the mail. Do you see police dogs chasing the postman? Properly trained dogs listen to their owner.

It's besides the point though.

How the hell can a dog bites someone's fingers off as they are putting letters through the letter box? I have never put my fingers in the hole/slit when posting things. Stupid postman. Fearing for his hand/fingers. Do one.

That pic just made me LOL in the office, fantastic Derp pic! :D

My dog always jumps at the door full pelt whenever anyone either knocks on the door or the postie puts the post through the door. No complaints here, I think he will be just one of them people who likes to complain.

Well done for keeping cool when he said he wants her dead...I would be seeing red mist if someone said that to me!

this has got bugger all to do with the dog.

this postman has a bad attitude. why should the dog change its behaviour. its done nothing wrong.

this guy has came up to the op snarling, telling him he wants his dog put down. im sorry but if someone came up to me like that about my dog i would be in the jail for assault.

this could have all been avoided if the postman was a bit more civilised and said"mate anychance you can get a gaurd on your letter box. im not comfortable about putting my hand in there.

Dogs rule =]

I don't have a dog but my best mate has a German Shephard who I've known since it was born and he's a rather large beast of an animal but rather cool. your postman sounds like he'd implode at the size of a GS :p

His dog runs to the door when I go round and barks loudly but after 30 seconds remembers who I am and just boshes about the place.

My mail man got his finger bitten off by the dog over the road about 2 months ago. The dog is only a little thing but jumped up and got him.

The house now has the letterbox taped up and a new box on the wall with big writing saying 'post' on it and 'beware of the dog'.

The police were round but it didn't get put down or anything.

In his defence he probably doesn't want this to happen and he doesn't know your dog.

I know a postie and dogs hate them, he has just recently been bitten by a "friendly dog" that never goes for anyone. Not sure what happens next but he ended up in a&e with a chunk taken from his arm.

Better to be safe and keep the dog in a different room or train it to ignore post.

That is not a friendly dog.

Nail on the head! If he would have said just that, or even just accepted my apology and had a bit of a grumble at me, then fair doos. And some might say that it was a one off, he approached my mum in the street to complain about this ravenous beast.

Hopefully he will see the sticker and realise I do infact care about his fingers as if I had his job, I too would be concerned.

Miserable git.

Here's a point to ponder, why does the postie feel the need to put his hand through the letterbox ?

I did some leafleting in my college days to earn towards my bus-fares etc (because in those days kids weren't paid for going to college, we did it because we WANTED to improve ourselves) and I managed to get the leaflets through without poking my fingers into the house.

As others have send. A WRITTEN letter to RM's head-office, recorded/registered post is the way forward.

As a postman I can state Border Collies are a bit of a nightmare and there are days on my round when I want every dog (and just about every person I deliver too) put down. :D

Getting fingers attacked and having post ripped out of your hands ain't much fun. Sure, in time you learn which people have rabid animals silently waiting on the other side of the door, but early on it's a real drag, especially as yours probably isn't the only 'wild animal' he has to deal with each day. There is also the owners normally jovial attitue to the whole thing, which can really rub a postie up the wrong way. ;)

You can complain, but I can pretty much garuntee naff all will happen. The only solution would probably only be a guard or an outside box.

Exactly. Everyone thinks their dog is sooooo special and would never hurt a fly, you even hear of how the owners of dogs who have killed or seriously maimed small children are "completely innocent" and "it wasn't the dogs fault!".

The Postman has every right to be afraid of the dog, especially if its attacking the letters, which his hand is attached to, as they come through the letter box. Control your dog better.

On the flip side; don't like dogs snatching mail from your hands? don't become a mailman :)

In all seriousness though, nothing has actually happened. most dogs snatch mail (although mine will just gingerly pull it from the door). Im sure if the dog did latch on to a finger, then the postman would have a right to some form of action, but until that happens, its all a situation based on nothing.

why are people putting their hands into letter box's?

I go out and post leaflets on a regular bases, I never feel the need to stick my penis, toe or finger into a letter box...

if the letter box is so unfit for purpose a bodily part needs to be pushed in as well as teh letter the owner should be informed and have the option of no post or a new letter box that works

The posties attitude might suck, but the dogs behaviour is hardly exceptional. I've never had a dog rush the post box and snatch the mail and if I did have one I would put it out of the dog right quick. Because I like my mail in one piece and my postie to have all his digits. I don't want my dog rushing about the house and snatching at things coming through doors, post boxes or windows. If I did, I'd buy a personal protection dog, that could do it on command.

The guy has just had the **** scared out of him by a row of teeth. He doesn't know what's behind the door. For all he knows agnes keeps Pitbulls for fighting. I would be bloody livid myself. In the past few years there's been a few cases of collies mauling kids. They can be nasty when they want to be.

The dogs behaviour is a problem that should have been dealt with. Unless you're of the opinion that it's acceptable for your dog to maul your mail and whatever else comes through the post box. In which case you're the problem. Not the dog.
