I'm looking to buy a memory card reader that can handle SD memory cards, and preferably have a couple of usb 3.0 ports.

It should be an internal card reader, with a mother board usb connection. My motherboard have spare usb 3.0 headers free to connect to.

Is the kind of product I'm looking for, but someone has told me that only the usb 3.0 connections use USB 3.0, while the memory card readers don't. Is there any options which does both?

Aren't the fastest SD cards something like 10MB/s which is still way less than USB 2.0 speeds?

I didn't know that, the goal was to make transferring files a lot faster...if that's the case I might just have spent £25 to get 2 more USB 3.0 ports and a regular memory card reader :p

But ah well live and learn :)

It has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 headers for the motherboard.

You'll have to see which one is used for the card reader part.

Is it going to make any difference anyway?

Speed varies depending on SD card for 5MB/s to 90MB/s or more. Not sure if they are really MB/s or Mb/s

But some SD cards are much faster than others. I remember having problems and having to spend extra to get fast ones for SLR camera years back.

Standard SD cards are only rated at between 2 and 10MB/s depending on their class rating.

There are Ultra High Speed SD cards.

The ones OcUK sell are rated at 30-45MB/s.
