Weight Loss/Virtual Gastric Band/Etc

Exactly, I have noticed how much more expensive fresh food are, it is a LOT more. Carbs is cheap, junk food is cheap.

The easy way to fill up I found is eat soup.

One of those fresh soup in a plastic pot is like 300 cal in a 600ml carton. I normally get one of those, cost like £1.70, then go to the hot meat counter and get 2 pieces of chicken thigh at 55p each.

That's my dinner!

It is a lot more expensive......it annoys me that whenever there is a thread on fat people you get the usual crowd all saying that eating healthy fresh food is just as cheap as eating junk food......it isn't, not by a country mile.

I'm convinced though that for now the key things are to avoid eating later at night when the hunger pains rear their head and to get my feet/legs fixed so I can walk for 8 miles a day.

you can eat what you like, just make sure it doesnt go over 2000k a day if you wanna lose weight..

make sure your heart is normal or buy a heart rate monitor and leave it on for 24 hours and in a normal day it'll tell you how many calories youve burnt so you can work off that in understanding how many calories you need to lose weight..

staying active is the best thing though..

yeah you should never have to starve to lose 2 pounds a week unless you're going for 4 pounds a week

Ah, I've been wondering about the rotisserie. I assumed it was very bad, akin to KFC.

Asda does 5 thighs for £2 which is easily tempting to eat them all.

Rotisserie chicken is good, far better than a processed sandwich or breaded chicken.......just don't eat the skin.

I eat loads of chickens.

I bought a bag of cherries today, £4.67 and I've already eaten 2/3 of it!

I like the skin...sometimes I take the skin off, chew it, then spit it out lol

Dieting makes me develop some weird habits.

I've been doing that - not easy!

the trick is to eat a sensible portion, if you are still hungry, wait at least 20 minutes...have a glass of water and then if you are still hungry, eat an apple or something.

9 times out of 10 simply waiting 20 minutes means that your body realises that it is actually no longer hungry.

Our bodies are our own worst enemy tbh.

You're spot on there. I was skinny until my early 20s though, so my entire family kept trying to get me to eat :P

I've got my head around it now, but it's 15 years too late.

My weight gain was horrendous, I was badly injured for several years, but kept eating the same 5k kcals a day I was eating as a Marine and I gained over 12 stone in half as many years.....luckily I retained much of my underlying fitness so when I eventually recovered (the mental impact took longer than the physical) I was able to lose it quite quickly.

It is hard work, it takes attention to detail and determination, but it is worth it.

Yep... I've got medical problems which restrict my movement much of the time - they're made worse by being overweight of course... I've now got them managed a lot better so if I lose the weight they'll get a lot better. But it's losing the weight that's difficult.

I do have the willpower, but part of my mental mechanism is making sure I've made it possible and easy for myself to lose the weight, I know it won't work unless I plan it out meticulously in advance - so once I'm satisfied I can do that that then the weight will come off.

One thing I did was note down everything I was eating for a couple of days and I mean everything, I would work out how much ketchup I was using, butter, drinks etc.

Everything has kcals and you dont release how much you are taking in, its hard to work out but you can with certain sites that let you put in food/product. Just opens up your eyes into how much **** you stuff in your mouth.

Everything in moderation and exercise , I cant really say anything more than that. Its hard but once you get into a routine its easy, you have to train your brain into eating right and body moving again.

I lost almost 3 stone without a single trip to the gym so it does happen.

You can still eat bread (I do) but in moderation (infrequently).
You can still eat carbs (I do) but in moderation and infrequently.
You can still eat chocolate (I do) but also in moderation.

As society, we self indulge too much, and self control is needed to remove that temptation.

p.s. Yogurt I find is pointless, unless you like the taste, just have a piece of fruit instead. Yogurt is high colorie for the little that you eat. I rather have some carrots and humous.

The skin is blooming tasty though.

Chew it and spit it out. Best of both worlds! :D

I love the taste of yoghurt, I'm careful not to eat any Muller ****e that's full of sugar etc. Just plain natural yoghurt.

Can't stand uncooked carrots, and I'd pay not to eat humous :)

I'm not a big fan of chocolate, I do have a couple of bars open that I bought about 6 weeks ago, swiss high cocoa dark chocolate stuff, one with chilli and one with orange. I'll have a square with a cup of tea late at night.

Bread and carbs in general I have to avoid. I do eat potatoes with my dinner most nights, boiled in their skins with a bit of oatmeal on top for texture or microwaved in their skins or mashed with loads of pepper. I'm very reluctant to cut them out.

Can you expand on this? I eat chicken breast pretty much every day. Also - has anyone got any info re: skipping breakfast? I cant stomach eggs and no idea for an alternative. :(

When you buy prepared chicken breasts just check the label, sometimes it will have added water and added fructose....it is common in Tesco value and own brand chicken breasts you buy. Better to buy a whole chicken or go down the organic route.

Reading this thread has given me a lot of great advice. i'm 5 10 and weigh 16 4 I have quite a bad beer belly now. I used to be super fit but stopped playing rugby. I always snack between meals and finish the plate. Every time I need a snack I'm going to have a glass of water and eat till I am no longer hungry. Also might go for walks more often.

Funny thing is my diet at school was shocking. Mum would make me a pack lunch for lunch. I would not take it to school. Nor would I eat breakfast I would be up at 7.30 and not eat till 4. I would then eat my cereal and a pack lunch mum would then cook dinner for 6. funny thing is I never used to get hungry in the day and I was very fit. I would eat 3 meals in 2 hours

Weights helps you gain strength, works out all the joints and muscles, makes you feel better and helps with weight lost and metabolism.

Advise anyone to join a gym or at least get some weights or do a body weight work out.

I have joined a gym since I lost the weight, about a year ago now. :)
