So front tyres on the CLK are quite low, it has Pirelli P6000's all round, not a tyre I rate, but the rears are almost new, even though the fronts are well worn.

Tyre size is 205/55 R16 91W

Been quoted £84 fitted for Conti PC2's which are great by my reckoning, so gonna fit them on the rear with the almost new P6000's on the front, hopefully making the car more prone to under rather than oversteer in an emergency.

My other option is to fit 4 PC2's and stick one of the good P6000's on the emergency wheel. (it has a worn P6000 on it already).

Would mean the Final P6000 would likely go unused and sit in my garage forever, but thinking that would be the best option, which way would you guys lean?
 
I would put the PC2 on the front as in a braking situation the front brakes will do more of the work.

Leaving the P6000 on the rear where they should wear out moderately quickly with it being RWD.

Would leave a worn P6000 on the spare as they are unidirectional iirc, and I can count on one hand the number of times I have had to use the spare in my car, pointless changing it imo provided its legal and isn't perished with more than 3mm of tread.
 
Get 4 PC2's, sell the two good P6000's on ebay. The P6000 has got to be one of the worst tyres ive ever used, despite its rather comical premium price tag at the time.

Agree, the P6000 mission in life, is to locate the nearest ditch in any given situation.

I'd also be tempted to stick the 'good' P6000's on ebay and get 4 new premium tyres.
 
Well yeah, I realise they will fit, but when there are multiple different types at different prices, what are the differences between Audi/Mercedes/BMW versions?

Shouldn't be any difference. I'm looking at getting a couple of SC5's in the not too distant future and the "Mercedes Fit" versions appear to be a little cheaper than the others. Absolutely no reason at all why I cannot use them on my Octy vRS.
 
Good to know, can't wait to get rid of the current P6000 ditchfinders, they inspire no confidence at all, managed to light up the rears today performing an overtake on a damp road while overtaking a car doing 35 on a NSL road, ESL did it's stuff, but was not impressed again with these awful tyres.

To think that these are a premium brand and not much cheaper than PC5's is quite scary.
 
Tesco/Blackcircles are doing SC2's for £78.90 each, seems like a bargain as they are £6 more each on Blackcircles direct.
 
I think its testament to the handing of my Gti-6 that it was fitted with them at factory and STILL was evos best hatch at the time....
 
Couldn't agree more, had them fitted to a company car years ago, so gonna go Conti's all round for sure.

Changed my mind and went with the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT at £77.17 each (4 purchased) fully inclusive at BCL.

Very good reviews and UHP rather than touring focussed.

Best wet stopping distance (equal to SC5's) with only marginally worse dry stopping, scores as good as the F1 AS2 on all but wear, but substantially lower price than anything else as good.

Will let you guys know what I think of them :)
 
Haven't seen these - seem like very good VFM.

Cautionously optimistic with these. Although they are cheaper than tyres like the F1 A2's, not by a whole bunch:

2 x F1 A2 225/40/18 £285
2 x Dunlop £250

That's £35 saved on the front tyres and will probably be another £50 saved on the rear set saving around £85. I guess it depends on how important £85 is to you, but it seems (from the limited tests avaliable) like the new Dunlops offer the performance of the F1 A2's but for slightly less. I'd have to read more about them before i'd consider them i think.

Yeah I have been debating these or PC5's for about a week, in the end I decided that UHP must be better for safety/handling than a touring oriented tyre, and SC5's don't exist in my size.

With the only negative score being wear, I figured why not.
 
Just had all the Sportmaxx RT's fitted and a Hunter 4 Wheel alignment done, £342 all in, and the car has a much nicer response and feel straight off the bat. Steering has better feedback and the ride seems a little firmer, not a bad thing on an elegance model.
