So the current motherboard is SATA-II and in order to take full advantage of an SSD which I plan on buying soon, I'd like to upgrade to SATA-III.

I would need an AM3 or AM3+ socket, and 4+ RAM slots with a max memory of at least 16gb and a support of 1600mhz memory. I would prefer USB 3.0, and don't need in-built graphics or crossfire support.

I don't really have a set budget, but the cheaper the better.

ATX or uATX are both fine.

Thanks in advance, OCers.

Personally, I would never buy Asus. Gigabyte always.

I would advise opposite, nothing against Gigabyte.

I aim to buy ASUS as there kit IMO is really good.

It's personal opinions at the end of the day.

If you want to make you own mind up. There are some helpful professional reviews on each board.

I had an Asus AM3 board and it was great and now i have a gigabyte z68 motherboard and thats great too.

I bought the Sapphire 990FX board as it has 9 SATA III ports on and 6 x PCI-e x4 or larger slots. It's my server board, so expansion is important to me :)

budget go - ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) £89.99

No matter cost - sus Sabertooth 990FX AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) £135

I have the M5A99X Evo and it is a good board. I used to dislike ASUS having been an ABIT supporter. However I have used both Gigabyte and ASUS recently and been pleased.

Recently built an AMD build with the Asus M5A97 AMD 970 for a friend. The board is actually pretty good. Very good build quality and a nice UEFI for the price. Honestly it feels better than the ASUS CH III I had before previously.
