The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I just don't know what to do. I've always wanted to get in to Eve, I've tried several times over the years but always end up not getting in to it. Not sure if it's because I go back to a char with 2 mil SP that I don't really have any clue about...

I want to get in to the PvP side of things, I'm debating starting a new char but really not sure what to do, what race etc. Are there any guides for a completely new player to follow to get them started up??

Start a new char, do the boring day or so of newbi training, then join eve-uni for some pvp training.. it doesnt take long, a week or two and you will be in a nice frig in a fleet somewhere.

yeah you could pop frigs/cruisers with only a couple of guns at range, BC's in maybe a couple of volleys which is making the Raven with Cruise missiles seem really slow, think the Mael had a better tank as well.

DanF, Cruise missiles are awful against frigs/cruisers. Either let your drones handle these (if you have go drone skills) or use a target painter/webber to help hit them with the missiles.
You mind find it easier and quicker sticking with the Drake. Alternatively add rigs to the Raven that help with explosion radius/velocity.

Yeah there's a lot of lvl4's with loads of frig/cruiser hull ships to kill, I'm using T2 med drones with fairly good support skills but still takes a while.

i use T2 smalls for frigs/cruisers find they are better than T2 meds.

Still with Artys you try to pop them before they get too close.

Not really.

The standard Raven with cruises has poor paper DPS and poor applied DPS to smaller ships (the explosion radius and velocity on BS sized missiles means you're never going to be great at popping them.

The Drake OTOH has no issues with smaller ships.

What about a TENGU as an upgrade?

edit
Yeah actually. Forgot Tech 3s were quicker to train.

Thinking back to when I did missions.... aside from a Nightmare, the quickest thing I've used for missions was a Laser fit Legion. Yes it was slower at killing the Battleships, but frigates and cruisers died so quick it worked out quicker than all the Battleships I'd tried (the main Amarr ones)

The tracking bonus on the Nightmare and the slot layout means you can have immense tracking whilst still having huge range and damage :)
Mine matches the dps and tracking of pulse fit T1 battleships whilst using beam lasers to hit up to 150km+ away :D

As to upgrade from a Drake. Tengu - no other choice. Nighthawk just isn't worth it. Tengu is better and quicker to train for.

yeah I've got no T3 skills trained, I'm at about 27m sp but stopped training about 2 years ago. Cash is a bit tight, I could sell a raven, mael and a couple of smaller ships and mods, maybe scrape together 500m but that's it right now.

are the T3 mini ships good?

yeah, they aint worth it while you are ok in drake/raven.

They are slow as well, so them long hauls to the Jumpgates are annoying as hell

ah just booted up EFT and some numbers are a bit more reviling, got some wrong as well:

Drake - 412dps/2264 volley - 340 sustained tank
Raven - 469dps/2894 volley - 626 burst tank - 181 sustained tank (no rigs yet)
Mael 1200 arts - 628dps/4611 volley - 778 burst tank - 383 sustained tank
Mael 800 acs - 836dps/2445 volley - 778 burst tank - 383 sustained tank

with std omni damage, rat specific hardeners would be different. The Mael will be missing some shots as well, not sure by how much?

Maybe I should stick with the Mael again :D

yeah, the mael is nicer, and has better dps.. maybe you should sell the raven and work towards a vargur? as that can likely tank/dps as good as the mael, if not better.

I dont have eft at work, so cant spec it up

Re-subbed a few days ago as i fancied a change from the normal games, Fitted a Tornado for some PVP action in low sec, first hauler came through, messaged me - Wanted to pay to survive, i promptly ignored and locked him up and scrammed, wallet flashes and 900mill appears, quickest 900mill ive ever earned lol - he then convo'd me again with the contents of his ship :( Turns out he was carrying BPO's worth in the region of 4bil :( I should have stuck around and popped his arse when he came out the station but i moved on incase his friends were coming.

Carrying BPO's in a Hauler.... You should have popped him just for that.

Vagur is about 812dps, didn't fit the tank part but looks good as an upgrade as it can fit tractor/salvage as well. Think I'm one skill and about 600m away from one :p

from what i remember of the kronos, the salvager/tractor make cleaning up easier.. just remember to let them get into range for it before killing them

Hyperthetical question but would you guys ever consider buying isk from a website such as gamebank? Or is it just not worth the risk?

Back in the day it was the only way to get big sums of ISK, but now its even easier with the PLEX's, buy them from CCP or somewhere else and sell them ingame on the market for around 480mill each.

I say the only way to get big amounts without mining your ass off and living in a good 0.0sec with decent rats, its all changed - ISK sellers and buyers are insta-banned when found also.
