Chris Moyles leaves Radio 1

He was certainly less funny these days, but still quite entertaining IMO. Can't stand scott mills and I think he thinks he's hilarious. Fearne Cotten appears to be direct marketing for the record companies because every piece of 'music' she plays is 'brilliant' even when the majority is rehashed awfulness.

If Chappers was still there, I'd be happy for Scott Mills to take over, but as it stands.. no.

I tend to favour listening to Nicky Campbell on Radio 5 Live on my drive to work in the morning.

I don't mind Chris Moyles but I find the Radio 1 playlist to be shocking.
With Nick Grimshaw taking over there's no reason for me to even attempt to suffer the playlist.

unfortunately they've been TOLD to aim for a younger market by the BBC trust. At the moment they've said there's too much crossover between Radio 1 and Radio 2. The average age of a radio 1 listener is over 30 when it's supposed to be the 'yoof' station aiming for 15-24 age group. Personally it should be about listeners more than demographic but the BBC trust has 'advised' Radio 1 to aim for a younger market so they have no choice.

*.

I have a problem with this. I know the average age of listeners to radio 1 is 33 but radio 2 is aimed at the over 35 market with 8 out of 10 listeners being over 35 and the average age is 50.

If Radio 1 is aimed at the 15-24 group, where the hell is the station aimed at the 25-35 range? There isn;t one.

Therefore, the BBC are going to mess it up big style. They will probably fail at attracting thr "yoof" market but will mess up radio 1 so badly all the over 24's will go elsewhere. Radio 2 is too old for the 25+ plus so an entire chunk of the listening audience will not be catered for.

They should just do another station aimed at the 15-24 group. Leave Radio 1 with it's 33 old average audience, Radio 2 at 50 etc.

He does have a massive ego but thats what the show was about. Grimmy is a bit meh as a replacement.

Best part of the week is Rob Dj's monday night pub quiz but i guess it won't be feature after sept.

I fully agree, this is going to backfire on them so badly and they are going to loose a huge share of the breakfast show audience.

Surely they don't need the Trust or surveys or research to see that the 15-24 age demographic they are aiming for is not who listen to the Breakfast Show. The reason being is that age range is largely made up of people in School and College as well as those who are in Uni who are either sleeping in or in lectures. So while they might want the 15-24 age range audience, they aren't the people listening to the Breakfast show and I doubt bringing in somebody who might connect with them better is going to make them listen, because most can't.

I've also got to agree on the comments about Moyles doing nothing but talking... that is the reason I like his show. Radio 1 during the day is just their approved playlist being repeated, a lot of it is chart music which isn't great, so its nice that its kept to a minimum.

I've had many moments where I've just burst out laughing in the car as a result of Moyles show.

There's 6Music, which is digital only unfortunately.

I like most of the DJ's on Radio 2 (except Evans) and sometimes have Simon Mayo on but the music does nothing for me.

Maybe it's time for OCUk FM?

Couldn't agree more. I feel like I'm too old to listen to Radio 1 now, but not old enough to listen to Radio 2 just yet.

There's a massive gap in the radio market that the BBC Trust seem to be ignoring.

Moyles is the only thing that makes Radio 1 worth listening to. He never has the "trying too hard" vibe that every single other Radio 1 presenter has, and the lack of music is a good thing, judging by the rest of the **** that gets played on Radio 1.

...sad to see Moyles going. Never had high expectations in regards to hitting my Music taste anyway with any Radio station so Moyles being a serial yakker wasn't a big issue for me. I liked to listen to the banter, sometimes good, sometimes boring. Scott Mills would have been an option for me, but I have concerns that Grimmy will interest me at all; maybe time to switch to Radio2.

I stopped listening to Moyles a whole back but I agree with this.

I never listen to radio 1 anymore because they are just "try hards" who leave me alternating between cringing and wanting to smash my radio to peices in a blind rage. I must be getting old because the whole yoof thing just boils my ****. I just listen to talksport or just channel surf to whoever has music then jump away again after.

I liked Wogan on radio 2 :(

I wonder how many of the people saying 'good' actually listen to the radio 1 breakfast show or are even remotely likely to listen to it, Moyles or not...

It makes me laugh when people say they are too young/old to listen to either radio station. It's more about the person than their age. Radio 1 is bland, repetitive music with DJs that go along with what is popular and this reflects its listeners. Radio 2 is for people who want to listen to informed opinions about things that matter and listen to older tunes that they may not have heard of before. For reference I'm 22 and can't stand Radio 1, used to listen to Moyles in the morning for about 3 months in the car but found the formula tiresome. Evans in the morning is generally a lot better if you ask me.

Maybe we'll actually get some music in the morning now.

I'm all for the music. Not some middle aged blokes sitting around having a conversation.
