How do you rate this forums growth/evolution since you joined?

Overall, I like the way the forum is still simple and doesn't allow massive or animated gifs. I don't tend to read or contribute much in GD or Motors any more, which used to be my main haunts on the internet.

If anything I prefer the fact that any man and his dog can overclock now. It means more people are getting into it and it's prolonging the life of the industry. Plus, while I do look back on the 90's overclocking scene fondly with rose-tinted specs, it was often a frustrating and time-consuming experience. I wasted a lot of my free time and money on it, and wish I hadn't.

It was a proper hobby and something to be proud of back then, used to love having a Vapo, running water cooling on everything else and blowing a portable AC unit into the side of the machine to get those extra few Mhz.

You needed proper skill to volt mod the motherboard, or draw pencil lines on your GFX card so you could push the core just that little bit further.

It was a time of spending BIG money for myself, but i got lots of pleasure out of it, now anyone can buy a motherboard, crank in an i5 and get big numbers with a few BIOS changes.

To the people complaining of trolls and the like, it's still better than the levels seen in pretty much every other forum. What are the utopian forums where no trolls reside?

While I agree with you, it's the inconsistency here which has always been a problem. Favouritism has always been easy to see here and some people get away with a lot more than others do or have done.

Not sure much has changed. There used to be a main stream of core members that have since left, organising many meets etc..The only big difference I've noticed is the lack of tolerance toward other members, mainly accusing each other of trolling etc.. I don't remember this being such an problem when I first joined. I don't like seing individuals singled out.

Yeah, this is the biggest issue. I think it's just a symptom of the internet in general. At least it isn't registrable compared to YouTube...

This. Agree 100%

Best forum on the net obviously. :p

Does seem that people get a little more heated in debates than previous... But if someone is passionate on a topic, I guess I can understand.

yarr, i have to agree. I hate the word trolling, i hate how people the media throw it about. I hate teenagers and young adults that have nothing to argue or talk about so call the troll card.

I hate how its spent trolling not trawling but thats a side note.

I blame the younger generation for all being noobs and cry babies.

And the forum has been the consistent rock to me since i first joined. I like how it looks the same still, i like it when people come and go.

Trolling is posting something with the intention of getting a reaction, of winding someone up. I don't see much of that on here.

What I do see is plenty of people posting opinions that others strongly disagree with and being accused of trolling.

Standard of moderating on the important stuff is very good as an overall standard. Some of the moderating on minor things is inconsistant. I don't think we should sweat the small stuff.

I think Semi-Pro has been an excellent addition to the moderating team.

Anyone who thinks it is funny to give me a ban or suspension for commenting on the moderators is a twonk. ;)

One thing that we do need is this :

I tend to spend less time on here nowadays simply because most threads especially in GD have stupid replies that totally go off topic. Also the technical sections are somewhat lacking compared to other specialist forums. It seems if you ask a technical question on here, you might be lucky to get 5 replies, but when you ask if you should dump your mrs you'll get hundreds of people chipping in with their downright stupid and childish remarks. The truth of the matter is most of you are just on here to take the **** in GD.

There's been certain individuals recently who have been singled out and it's been a good thing.

The Kwerk ban I don't agree with - but I don't know what the mods know so there's maybe more to it. Perhaps he'll be back.

There's a few posters here who are singled out for abuse when they post and it's a good thing. However I've not seen them so much in the past week or two. Even Stockhausen who I really think little of hasn't been posting as much.

I think sometimes someone will make a thread where they'll confess to some less than stellar behaviour, and the rest of the forum will be clambering over itself to abuse them and everything in their life. Is this what you mean? Out of the woodwork in these circumstances appear posters who share nothing about themselves, add nothing to discussions, but seem to love slamming other people.

I don't think there is quite the same feeling of community there once was but I'm still here so something must be going right.

The mod team have lost some very good dons such as Freefaller, Zefan etc, but the majority are still very good at what they do.

I personally think that this year could go either way for the forums & the way the year has started it doesn't look good.
The community side & warm feeling has fell apart as the Younger/Newer members have missed the point when it comes to contributing/opening up. This has now changed into a I'm here & involved attitude which gives us nothing & doesn't add to the community at all.
On top of this there's the obvious changes at the top with nobody or nothing to link the old with the new. Just because you own the company or are senior management or a valued team member/Employee this does not fill the void that has been left by Spie/Mark. There is no connection between the new & there doesn't seem to be any community based activity to link us All together.
Also I can't ignore the poor attempts to cash in on the community such as those **** T shirts which would have been fine if you/they had established a connection Before hand, As it is it just seemed like a quick cash raise to make the new books look good.

I really don't think the new owners or the members here quite understand just how valuable this place is, Like everything else in the World it will only be valued once it's lost. :(

This place definitely has changed over the years, it's just hard to say whats changed and even if it's a good thing or not because it's been so gradual! It does seem like there is more of a younger crowd now (this could be because I'm no longer part of that crowd lol) that don't appear to contribute as much as people used too, I certainly end up seeing more and more keyboard warriors and bickering about silly things :( less OcUK-etiquette!

A fair few of the older regulars seem to have moved on or are at least less active on the forums which is a shame.
