I was throwing £10/haircut every 3 weeks or so before the light bulb went on. Because my hair grows so fast I thought I could afford to see if I could cut it myself.

Got the clippers and super-sharp haircut scissors & a big mirror on a stand.

Theres some great websites and vids out there that show you how to do this. And Im not talking "clippers set to zero & 30-second military buzz" here...Im talkin takin some off the sides, a little off the top, blending etc.

The trick is simple: overestimate by 2 to be absolutely safe. So if you think you need a grade 3 on top fit the grade 6 guard and have a go and take it down from there. If you are really brave (like I am now haha) use the unguarded clippers to precision-trim the sides and behind ears. Works great..just make sure your hand doesnt slip :p

The back is more tricky but again with practice its a breeze. You need strong lighting and if you can: get clippers where you can rotate the head 90 degrees. SO much easier.

I'll be honest: its a PIG the first few times ..but Ive been doing it for 4 months now and Ive gotten really quick - its all done in under 30mins and Im getting faster. First time I tried it...it took 2 hours

Anyways...more £ for games games games :D

Anyone else on here mastered the home cut then lol.

I've previously contemplated having the same all over and seeing how it looks. I suppose if you cut it quite long the first few times, you have nothing to lose and can still go to the barbers to get it sorted.

i pay £11 for a haircut every 3-4 weeks. money well spent imo as i know that if i tried to do it myself, it would go **** up and i'd have to pay to get it sorted anyway.

Been doing my own for a few years now. I have a Philips one which you can twist the head which makes things so much easier. Saved so much money over the years, as I would have a cut every 4/5 weeks.

I have kinda longish hair you could say. Think Justin Bieber. It's easy enough to cut your own hair, you just have to use thinning scissors, that way you can't really go wrong.

No-one knows I cut it myself unless I say, and Justin and I seem to do ok for ourselves ;)

Been cutting my own hair for 11 years now. Start with a grade 7 on top and work down to grade 3 to the ears/burns and back of head. Wife then does the neck hair line. Takes about 15 mins.

Only went wrong once and had to shave it all off. Even cut my own hair on the morning of my wedding, best man thought i was crazy :-D

I cut my own hair - since shaving all of my long hair off a year or two back, all I do now is use the 25mm guard on the back and sides, whilst the top gets the same, but plus the thickness of my fingers running through my hair along with the clippers... if that makes any sense.
Easy job that doesn't leave me looking like a nutter lol, unlike the No4 cut I went with when shaving all of my hair off.
