Could people please list which steam games with hardware DRM are best to avoid.

I know of one Test Drive Unlimited 2 with securom which i've heard is just horrible to have on your system.

I've bought a few games off gamersgate with securom before i found out, thankfully they were really cheap, i just don't want securom on my PC, solidshield that EA use i've read isnt as bad and gets deleted when you uninstall game.

Anno 2070 has a 3 system installation limit. However if you go over that I heard you can just contact Ubisoft support and they'll reset it for ya.

Whilst no DRM is particularly wonderful, SecuROM isn't really any worse than others.

All the guff about rootkits and stuff is just that - guff, no one ever proved anything relating to those claims.

The only problems I have had is the the DRM failing. Crashing because of a bit of hardware usually. Most publishers send out a patched exe.

I hate Games for Windows Live (horrendous service) and the Ubisoft DRM (always online).

Then there are the unnecessary Rockstar Social Club launcher and Gamespy service.

I remember Wings of Prey using some **** poor DRM, it had been fixed after a while, though.

TAGES and StarForce are just pure evil (non-revokable, limited activations).

Why do you find it so bad:confused::confused:,never understood all the fuss about DRM/securom,not had one problem with any of them.

Never had a problem with DRM.. except..

If the internet connection is down, I'd like an option to play my single player campaign, and upload my progress when the connection comes back up. Not being able to play because you can't save is ******** tbh.

The problem is that the publisher retains control of a game you paid money for. Upgrade your computer? No game for you. Want to reinstall an old game? No game for you. Ubisoft servers offline? No game for you. Your internet connection is down so you can't authenticate your game? No game for you.

Just because you've never run afoul of these things doesn't mean nobody else has, and it certainly doesn't mean you never will in the future.

Fixed. Sadly. You don't own any game these days. All you buy is a licence to be allowed to play which, according to every EULA I've read (which I admit isn't many!) can be withdrawn at any time, without notice, cause or any reason at the publishers discretion and often cannot be appealed against and you accept these by clicking 'I agree' and installing the game.

No DRM is as bad as GFWL. About time Microsoft put it out of it's misery. I won't be buying a game with it attached again.

I'm pretty sure these are unenforceable in court - but so far nobody's tested it.

I haven't checked to make sure they are actually correct but one of the senior producers at Eden _claims_ that TDU2 only uses SecuROM on the original retail disc release and that the version on steam only uses steam's system.

I've had this before a couple of times, in one case I managed to use the revoke tool ok in the other case IIRC it was Stalker CS and I somehow used all my 5 activations just changing graphics card - support eventually said it was a known issue and actually ended up directing me to gamecopyworld as they had no working fix for it.

Lot of misinformation here

TAGES for instance gives you back 1 activation per month on any EA game so you install 1 per month after a month you get given back the activation token. So you start with 5 go down to 4 after install then go back up to 5 after 1 month.

Probably the same for other TAGES games but EA for sure this is their policy now.

As for the others they almost always give you an extra activation if you uninstall without revoking the securom licence.

GFWL games which use SSA have unlimited activations since late 2009.

Crysis Warhead is the only time I have ever had to contact EA as it only comes with 3 activations & any hardware change is seen as a new activation its very draconian & the highest level of securom. Recent games are way more lenient.

Crysis on Steam ran out of activations for me and EA and Steam Support keep blaming each other. EA finally sent me a key that won't activate on steam OR on Origin. Go figure. :(
