OBVIOUSLY this is the best looking aircraft!!
I'm not biased.....honest

My point was that this is being done now. The X37 has completed a number of spaceflights. The Sabre currently has a few modules on rig test, with the predicted EIS for Skylon to be 2020ish. Skylon aims to be pilotless. Getting the control system to work will be very difficult (understatement). The X37 has it nailed, apparently.that's just a flyable capsule, it's not a SSTO like the Sylon, it's also tiny.It still requires a massively expensive rocket to get it up there.I don't even get the point.
What do you mean by 'water damage'? I have no experience with capsules, but I'm assuming re-entry as a glider allows greater control over where you end up on the Earth.Compared to a casual it wastes a load of space and weight on the rocket and the benefit is? Doesn't get water damage so needs marganly less reconditioning before next flight at the cost of all those extra parts, fuel and wasted space, which will cost more to lift on a conventional rocket.
Officially they have said it is a 'technology demonstrator.' Some bits are new, such as the control system and heat shield - but as you say, it's military; the USAF are running this. It seems the Yanks have something that they can reproduce more quickly and cheaper than their competitors, and can get into orbit using existing technology. I'd imagine its purpose is to nip about nailing Chinese satellites. So I wonder what it's purpose is for, as it's milliatry and they've never said what it is for.

Nip about destroying Satelites? You do not need a gliding causal to do that. That can be done with any conventional product which doesn't waste space or weight.
