Ultimate facepalm - buying something you already own.

What controller are you using? If it is an Xbox 360 one then it is USB and just plugs in if it is an original Xbox controller then do yourself a favour and get a 360 one.

It's a 360 one: Amazon Link. It has a small connector which plugs in into a converter which has a USB connector at the other end. I saw the reviews saying it worked perfectly once plugged in the USB port, and I thought WTH, this doesn't have a USB connector, completely forgetting it was originally plugged into my PC with the dongle. I was really shocked how I had completely forgotten I had played The Witcher 2 with it. That was a long game!

purchased a pay-as-you go mi-fi box from ebay

drove to town after work (8 miles) to get a pay as you go sim for it... paid £2 parking got to shop it was shut..

drove from work to town the next day (another 8 miles) paid £2 to park went to shop got sim..

opened up mifi box to insert sim...

it already had on in....

At least you thought it was lost/gone when you bought it again.

I do a weekly shop and I always forget to check what I have in stock at home so end up buying stuff I have plenty of just in case I've run out.

I think the point is it's not a dongle or a converter, it's just part of the cable. The xbox uses USB connections, the bit in the middle is just to break the cable if someone trips over it instead of pulling an xbox off a shelf.

edit: on that note I felt like raging back in the day when my dad tripped one of these on the original xbox and promptly tried to plug it back in for me... to the power button. I was playing through original halo on legendary for the first time and had completed 2 or 3 chapters without exiting and was about to finish another one. Switching off the power meant all that progress was gone. :(

Ah I see. I didn't realise the Xbox 360 ones still came with those as I've only ever used wireless controllers. So it isn't a converter, it is just the end of the cable. Can't see it being that easy to forget about, but ok. :D

I've thought I was low on toilet paper twice so bought some from the shop, on both occasions I already had some so now I have loads. :)

Ah I see, I was wondering about that. There doesn't seem to be any circuitry or anything in the dongle, so I was wondering how it was actually converting one signal to another. So like you say, there is no conversion, it's just a detachable portion of the cable.

Today I am going without lunch to make up for the £3 I wasted and bring balance back to the universe :p. Can't stand the thought of wasting money.

On Saturday, I bought a pint after coming back from the toilet. Only to find my original pint still on the table!

Get in
Do you do this - buy two pints, claim one is for your mate who will "be here in a minute", drink one of the pints then do some watch checking and grunting then drink the other one :D

I have Origin of Symmetry and Radiohead: Best of because of this reason :(

Probably bought them both together both times as well for 2 for £10.
