Pinch of salt and all that jazz, but:

Arsenal will tell Robin van Persie this week that he will not be granted his wish to leave the club this summer, Goal.com has learned.

The Dutch striker is ready to reiterate his stance that he wants to quit Arsenal before the current transfer window closes in contract discussions that will take place with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

But Gunners officials have decided to gamble on losing Van Persie for nothing next year by holding him to his current deal, which expires in 11 months.

The north Londoners have calculated that the reigning PFA Player of the Year will have less chance of being awarded a lucrative, four-year contract next summer from one of his suitors because of his age – he turns 30 in August 2013 - and chequered injury history and are even hopeful that he will then sign a new Arsenal deal.

Van Persie delivered a bombshell with the statement via his own website on July 4, which effectively said he wanted to leave because he disagreed with Wenger and the board of directors "in many aspects … on the way Arsenal should move forward".

Yup, instead, play an unhappy player(I have no worries that he'll still play great) while benching that 12mil guy you just bought who is currently in form, then when RVP leaves in a year for free, our "new" year old striker will be completely out of form, feel as if he doesn't really have the confidence of the manager, and struggle the year after.

Or you know play the guy we just paid 12mil for, and the guy we paid 10mil for, and get as much money as we can for RVP, then our two new strikers can come into the team in form, play a lot this year, hopefully ride their current form into working well with the team.

How many times do you bring a top - very good striker in, then basically bench him for a year, when do people get benched for a year and then play great straight away afterwards?

We bought a replacement, so we need to finish that by selling the player he was bought to replace, anything else is just stupid at this point.

Like last year there's no chance the Arsenal board will okay the idea of letting a player go for nothing just to get one more season out of them. RVP will either go before 1st September or he'll sign a new contract.

who says your "in - form" new players will definitely play well when moving to a new league & team?

They may do - but there is no gaurentee

Does seem a bit backwards though admittedly (although it could just be empty words - ie a threat they arent ever likely to go through with - from Arsenal to get a better offer for RvP)

Foolish by Arsenal, take whatever money you can get (20mil?) and invest in players that want to be at your club.

You could get some great potential talent for 20-30 million. Instead you pick a player who:

A) doesn't want to be there, even if he plays well, it's on the clubs mind.
B) Has an Iffy injury record, god help you if he gets injured, you just wasted 20million, bravo.
C) Alienate your new signing if you play to accommodate a player who has no wish to be there. This will harm confidence and ability to shine should they be needed (Likely)

Moronic running of a football club.

RVP not going on 'tour' with Arsenal
Carroll definitely on his way out of Liverpool one way or another

Both on SSN

'Apparently' we've had a €38m bid rejected for that Lucas lad, if that's true just why aren't we spending that kind of money on a central midfielder (I'm probably getting boring saying that now). Fergie really is determined to leave it till both Scholes and Giggs retire next summer isn't he :o

Seriously just whack a £20m bid in for someone like Cabaye and we'll be sorted it really is that simple

I would be shocked if that were true; that we would have offered €38 (~£30 million) for Lucas Moura. He doesn't sound like he's the best brazilian youngster about at the moment, he's very young, untried at any serious level and isn't what we need right now.

What am I saying, he's perfect for Fergies policy of never directly addressing gaps in the squad.

If we are offering that kind of money, that's quite surprising and means we'll probably get him as they initially wanted about £30m.

Have to feel sorry for Wenger. Fabregas, Nasri and now RVP all leaving in a short period of time.

Possibly Walcott as well, but personally wouldn't think that's a big loss, if you can get 20m for him i would, lads too unpredictable when it comes to form. Don't really rate him, he's had plenty of time and opportunity to settle and make a mark.

reading today's telegraph, carroll going would seem to be only now a matter of time. also read they're interested in allen from swansea?

pienaar going back to everton for a total of £5m, paid in two £2.5m installments. bizarre. we only paid £3m for him.

Does take the **** if that's true, Spurs should have the decency to sell him back for what they paid his value obviously hasn't gone up in fact his value to Spurs is less than what it was when he was an Everton player in the first place

i can't quite understand it. we loaned him back anyway, so i assume everton covered his wages whilst on loan so it's not like we're looking to recoup them.

i know levy is ruthless but i thought he may have been a bit more tactful with a club like everton, who don't have much money to spend. obviously not. business as usual for mr levy and that's what it is at the end of the day.
