If we are offering that kind of money, that's quite surprising and means we'll probably get him as they initially wanted about £30m.

early reports suggest they rejected 38m bid, although not sure why (I guess its still marginally under £30m)

Huge gamble on an untested youngster - yeah he may well add brazilian flair at some point in the future but imo a box to box player like Moutinho would be better currently (even if he is significantly older)

Anything more than 16mill is daylight robbery, especially since it's painfully obvious Rodgers is keen to get rid.

Think Newcastle hold all the cards now.

Westham said they pulled out going after other targets

Brendon does not want him

Andy wants the move back to Newcastle

We got a 25% sell on clause in his contract.

think Liverpool will be getting a second nose bleed from dealing with Newcastle lol

It be under 15million if not am afraid Liverpool will just have to pay him 4 million a year for someone they don't want

i can't quite understand it. we loaned him back anyway, so i assume everton covered his wages whilst on loan so it's not like we're looking to recoup them.

i know levy is ruthless but i thought he may have been a bit more tactful with a club like everton, who don't have much money to spend. obviously not. business as usual for mr levy and that's what it is at the end of the day.

That depends, Everton may have come in with that offer, then as any businessman he isn't going to turn around and go, hey, don't give us £5m, we will take 3!

RVP not going on 'tour' with Arsenal
Carroll definitely on his way out of Liverpool one way or another

Both on SSN

I still think RVP will go but aren't most players who were on Euro duty missing from some of the first pre-season games ?

Dunno, could be just Sky trying to make a story out of nothing but AFAIK our players who were involved in the Euro's are still on holiday whereas RVP is back at Arsenal

Reading Berba's agent linking him with Milan, if ever there was a like for like replacement for Zlatan :p

EDIT: Apparently some Sporting Director at Lucas' club has confirmed the rejected €38m bid. Insane.

RvP was missing from the preseason games at the weekend as were all the players involved in Euros (AOC was hanging around in civvies though).

Arsenal are due to fly out to China on Friday (this would include first team players) so apparently he is "demanding showdown talks" before then or whatever the dramatic phrase of choice is these days. I would imagine it makes sense for him to stay at home so that if a transfer is in the offering he is in a position to discuss it etc.

Apparently RVP returned to training today, and our squad for the pre-season tour of Asia won't be jetting off until Saturday so we won't know anything until then. If he is left behind then I think it's fairly obvious he will be sold this window. If he leaves then I can see him leaving for Juventus, though I read a hilarious story earlier about him wanting to play for Fenerbahce, according to Kuyt. :p

Does take the **** if that's true, Spurs should have the decency to sell him back for what they paid his value obviously hasn't gone up in fact his value to Spurs is less than what it was when he was an Everton player in the first place

LOL, of course his value has gone up (value 'to Spurs' should include sale value in the calculation); Spurs bought him when he had less than 6 months left on his contract, whereas he's now got 3 years left.

And if he stays at Spurs will go back to being a bench warmer (if that) and probably as a result go back to being woefully out of form, current form is pretty significant when it comes to transfer fees; would anyone pay £35m for Carroll now? Would anyone pay £50m for Torres? Would anyone pay £50m for Kaka?

At Spurs (under Arry at least) Pienaar wasn't the same player he was at Everton so at the very least he should be sold for what they paid, certainly not more.

None of the players you mentioned were in the final six months of their contract, nobody would have paid £35-50m for those players at the time had that been the case.

Pienaar was had on the cheap because of his contract situation, £3m was well below 'normal' market rate for a player of his calibre proven in the EPL. It wouldn't be the first time a club gets a player in on a 'bargain' deal then sells them shortly after at a profit, take Michael Owen for example, RM bought him for £8m then offloaded him to Newcastle for double that after an average season.

Another example maybe Diarra, Arsenal got him cheaply for £2m, he couldn't break into the team and then we flogged him to Portsmouth for £5m plus a big sell on clause, wasn't as though he had pulled up any trees at Arsenal, he was just underpriced when they bought him.

Was helped a little by Portsmouth's clear financial foresight and ability to play the transfer market... ;)

Is Pienaar on the transfer list at spurs?? If not that would explain the price hike a little more.

i think it's just a case of him not going to get game time (competing with bale) and he maybe prefers it more at everton so best for everyone. i'd preferred to keep him, good player and valuable to the squad for depth and rotation. we'll struggle to find a better, proven player for £3m so i assume it's a mutual agreement.

we need atleast 2 more signings, ideally 3, one in each area of formation. actually, 4, we need another keeper too unless gomes has transformed certain parts of his game. cudicini is a good reserve/euro player but there's no escaping friedel's age. what with king retiring (not sure if bassong and gallas are still spurs players, nor how dawson's injury is getting on), i'd like to see us get another central defender in.

When Rvp signs for united I am sure he will catch up with our pre season squad

Cant see any logical reason why he would join Utd. He wants to win trophies so his obvious choice would be City.

Would be nice to get it over with so we can start with players that want to play for the club.

Not selling him would be foolish I think. Sign or let him go.

Exactly. Spurs have done nothing wrong, it's Peanut who has probably gained from all this. Signing for Spurs while almost at the end of his contract meant Spurs spent less on his fee and put him in a better position to haggle for a big increase in salary... similar to a Bosman free transfer.

Now he has a longer contract his fee will cost more but will Everton be willing to pay his new improved salary?

not arguing City probably look the best placed for trophies but your post is still extremely let's say daft

EDIT: Stupid will probably get me in trouble

Whats this based on? City pipped us last year with a horrendous list of injuries and we have strengthened much more than they have. Personally I think that if City don't get much stronger, they will struggle to win anything. United and Chelsea should be around the top so City will find it just as hard as this year if not harder.

When City have won the title in emphatic style or for a few seasons running I might believe that players wanting to win titles would always choose City but while they have Aguero, Tevez, Ballotelli and Dzeko why on earth would RvP go to City when he has 2 maybe 3 more years at the top barring injuries.

I find this slightly strange really.

I'm reading that the Sao Paulo board are currently discussing what to do, and they're currently split 50/50 over whether they should take the money or not.

It seems (from a bit of research) that he's employed in a similar position to David Silva, on the right (or I suppose left) hand side of attacking midfield. So he's not really a winger.

Considering he plays in a position we don't even use, perhaps Fergie really does want to move to a different style/formation.

We'll see. At least it seems we do have money available. :o

you reckon?

you could sign another 4 players and still not be as strong as city. city are a ridiculously strong team, with good depth. if they ever start truely playing as a team, it will be damage limitation for opposing teams for most games.

I very much doubt Liverpool paid £35m and agreed a 25% sell on clause. Regardless, the sell on clause would only be valid if Liverpool were selling for a profit, so its a moot point.

I imagine Liverpool are only looking to sell if they can get a good deal, so that the cash can then be reused, There's really no point letting Carroll move back to Newcastle for a pittance.
