Living room totally wrecked...my rights?

A house with a room full of sewage and no running water is not fit for habitation and I'd be asking for money to rent elsewhere whilst it is fixed.
Either that or for him to "put you up" somewhere else temporarily.

Whether you pocket that money and move in with your mates / parents for a few weeks while they clean up the **** is up to you. ;)

I simply wouldn't stand for it at all. never mind what "my rights" were.

spoke to his son 3 minutes ago - says should be able to use washing machine tomorrow :)

gotta sleep long workday tmw - thx for the help.

It sounds a very odd setup and a lot of you sharing it. I would seriously consider a move if anywhere I lived had a sewer in the lounge as it won't be the last time it happens. I also really do wonder whether the landlord should be letting somewhere out that has a sewage outlet in the living room. Slightly odd.

move out tbh.. wouldn't even think twice about it if something like this happened - you can't live in those conditions and your living room is going to be fairly unpleasant for a while.

Would also seek advice re: whether he's breached any regulations here too.

Slightly?

If it was the 18th century and the rent was a few pence, it would be understandable.

How is the landlord (or son) cleaning the living room? If it has had sewage flooding it then it's probably a health hazard unless properly treated and carpets replaced, etc.

And seriously, a sewer under the living room floor?

How the flying **** did that extension get through planning permission?! Dad is in the building trade, done plenty of extensions, and he's just read this thread with a look of disbelief on his face haha!

This thread brought a smile to my face.

I know others have said this already, but WTF is a drain/grate doing under the living room carpet?

It's a serious health hazard, i wouldn't be inhabiting this house until it was professionally cleaned.

Rerouting drainage is very expensive, if this is an extension then you have the option, subject to planning permission, of leaving the drain cover inside of the house, for this to happen the drain has to be certified for indoor use and be double gasket sealed and screwed down.

Agreed, we had to move a sewer inspection cover just for a garage extension.

Andi.

Stagger me, I've just realised the sewerage drain was actually in a living space. What the hell?

Probably hired immigrants to build the extension, amirite?

I went there ¬_¬
