*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

What should I do? Awaiting my refund from PCW, really don't want to risk getting another one. What's the next best tablet for £200?

Sorry to hear you got a bad Nexus 7. I too have quite bad luck with electronics and stuff usually always have to return the 1st I get for a replacement.

I'm probably like you, and read everything you can, then when I actually the device just go searching for faults. It's a bad habit!

Regarding your question, (like Robbo said) could you save up for an iPad? you can buy an iPad 2 for £329, which is still a very good tablet. They have top notch customer service in store and over the phone should have any issues.

Unless you're dead set on this, then maybe wait a month or two, and hopefully some newer ones will come through without this screen issue.

This could be a good SATNAV but, can any one confirm how much maps data it can save?

Can it save the whole of the UK locally?
Pointless SATNAV device if it can only save a little data seeing as its only WIFI and useless unless you tether outdoors...

Bah Google Play beat me too it, now have 2 coming tomorrow now. Oww well their loss as i'll just refuse the delivery from Google Play.

I run Sygic and have downloaded the UK map. Couple of hundred of MB's so not a problem for an 8 or 16 GB device.

Up too 50MB per map section. But i'm pretty sure directions can't be cached for obvious reasons.

Just to be sure guys if i refuse delivery off the GP order tomorrow it will get returned to sender and should get a refund automatically with a few days yeah?

This is the one I've ordered (from the big south american river) for the princely sum of £5.99 all in:

And someone's just put up this review for it:

"For nexus 7 case

Hi Guys, Was lucky enough to try, on the all new nexus 7

This is an excellent case for anyone looking for a quality,
functional, attractive looking leather case for the nexus 7.

QUALITY: This case is well made with quality PU materials. My
impression is that it will be very durable. Time will tell.

PRICE: This looks like a 25 pound case.

SLEEP MODE: The cover works great at putting the nexus 7 in and out of
sleep mode.

COVER FOLDS BACK: The cover also folds all the way back and lays flat.
A feature sometimes lacking in other cases.

PROTECTED CORNERS: The manufacturer did a nice job of protecting the
corners by slightly extending the edges out.

NO FUSS DESIGN: The case has an elegate, simple design. Case is quick to adjust.

SNUG FIT: Case fits well. The tablet doesn't move. Leather stretches
so I'm hoping it stays snug

SECURE: The Nexus 7 appears to be very secure in the case. A fold of
leather and velcro keep it secured.

BUTTON ACCESS: The case allows easy access to all of the buttons and
features of the Nexus 7

BORDER OF SCREEN: The case is cut back away from the screen slightly
to allow easier access to the edge of the screen.

APPEARANCE: Professional, streamline, quality look. Nice enough for
the board room.

Overall, a great case. Recomended. A++_ "

So looking good hopefully.

EDIT: I noticed the seller has already put his price up by £1.50

I couldn't find this at first so I searched google for some of the review text, eg "The manufacturer did a nice job of protecting the corners by slightly extending the edges out". This found a link to a near identical review for an iPad case, so I think its possibly a bogus review written by the manufacturer...

Anyway, it looks good, let us know what you think when it arrives.

Lol @ it's Tegra 3's fault.

+1 - the screen brightness was reviewed as being not that great

so not that surprising

I can't justify £500 for a tablet, but £200 I can - so half tempted. Wife has got an IPAD 3 and the screen on that genuinely blows me away - in all respects, resolution, black levels, contrast etc - lovely - at a price

i've managed to select 86MB for the whole of norfolk.
i think you can save multiples files though i have no idea if you tried it for the whole of the uk the files would work with each other.

I'm a bit late to this thread but in case it hasn't already posted in the existing 74 pages...

Hearing all the comments of users from other forums saying that their boxes had already been opened I hope that mine IS this hard to get into.
