Warning, may contain thoughts of mx-5

Not really, but the difference in performance is so minimal that it's pointless arguing about it :)

Ahh yea, I keep forgetting the mk1 is only 130bhp with the 1.8, which on its own, I agree is no different. But add up the better brakes, bracing and increase in likelihood of the LSD and better spec...

We bought quite a few of these as the donors for our race cars which are all based on Mk1 1.6 cars and we always sought imports due to many having LSD's as standard. I paid £700 for my donor Mk1 from a mate who has an MX5 parts business and it proved to be bang on, no rust, good sills but we had others that were less good for similar money. Bit of a mixed bag really but the costs of panels are so cheap surface rust is really not worth worrying about but you need to check the sills properly as you could buy a load of junk that really needs to be scrapped. My engine had about 85K on the clock as I recall and did a half day at Donington but only 4 laps at Snetterton before it blew a head gasket and now really needs a new engine. Power is also variable we had them all rolling roaded prior to being fully rebuilt as race engines and the figures were as low as 70bhp up to around 110bhp on standard engines, which became between 127bhp and 137bhp after a full rebuild to race spec.
