Reported: 10 Killed in US Batman Premiere

To those all for banning guns, after literally 2 mins of googling I find reports that 'small arms' cause 500k deaths per year, 200k being civiliation deaths. Alcohol causes 2.5 million deaths a year. This is globally in both cases. Shall we ban alcohol too? Outlaw guns and only the outlaws have guns, and the government. There is nothing to say these nutters wouldn't have access to guns anyway. I would like to see more information released about the offenders back ground to be honest.

It's really quite funny that you have missed something massive, those 2.5 million deaths is what people are doing to themselves, with gun crime it's to others!

Here... we... go...

ps: We have fairly strict gun legislation in the UK, thankfully!

Screw you and your roll eyes, care bear. Who do you think is going to look after you? The police? If I were to be accosted by someone with a gun, I would at least like a level playing field.

@ RomanNose - suicides outweigh murders

Are you really that stupid

The FACT that guns are outlawed here means that the probability of you being in that situation is unbelievably small.
If plonkers like you got your way then that probability is MASSIVELY increased , now get back to COD and thinking your some badass killer shot

Consider your example for one second... So someone is pointing a gun at you. So your "level playing field" is what exactly? Popping back home quickly to get your hand gun out of your drawer? Or are we in wildwest quick draw territory here?

If more guns are available, more will get ill-used.

Be thankful in this country at least, you will probably never be faced with someone with a gun. Of course they're out there, and of course if someone really wants to get their hands on one, they will, but at the moment the legislation means its fairly difficult:-
- We don't see angry kids wandering into schools looking to vent with dads gun.
- We don't see drugged up heroin addicts regularly using guns to rob with.
- We don't see burglars carrying guns in case the owner has one.

Would I like to own a gun for protection? Absolutely 100% yes. But if this meant large numbers of guns flooding into public hands? Absolutely 100% no... If me not being allowed to own one means rapists, criminals, druggies and kids can't get hold of them so easily! Fine!

I can't imagine what the UK would be like to live in if it had gun laws like the US. I really think it would be a huge step in the wrong direction...

Horrific news.

Some moron commented this on the youtube video
our issue is everyone is NOT armed. if someone in the theater was CC the idiot would have been DEAD before he got a chance to fire his second bullet. EVERYONE should be carrying .

He may be trolling but I could not let that go:

Moron doesn't even begin to describe you.

The guy was heavily armed, had armour, tear gas and a gas mask. The average person would not have been able to react and take control of the situation, that takes a highly trained person. If someone was carrying and fired at him then you can guarantee it would have made things worse, the shooter would have been more inclined to fire off more rounds from his assault rifle and side arms.

You have a brain for a reason, put it to use.

A silly but relevant little analogy for the people who seem to think the gun laws don't make a difference... If Batman didn't have all his gadgets, would he still be as effective?

Course not, just like these murderous psychopaths would never kill as many people if all they had was a kitchen knife. I'm sure other people here have had run-ins with thugs, muggers etc... What if they'd had a gun?

Thank God we don't have America's gun laws here. Just tragic.

The US would never be able to effectively change it's gun laws, considering that out of 875 million firearms worldwide, over 275 million are owned by us citizens. That makes 90 firearms per 100 US citizens (of all ages).

Grief?
Because you have personally been effected by all this?

Have you? If not you have no more right to be upset by it than others do to joke about it and certainly not in a position to lambast people for making light of a situation whilst real, is so disconnected from the world we know it's might as well something from a movie.

You can't have it both ways.

Of course I've not been personally effected by it.

Fact is, making sick jokes about the murders of 12 people and scores injured is bad taste no matter how much you try and justify it to yourself as otherwise.

They did, in 1920 (Prohibition) but it only resulted in more crime.

The difference is (other than the fact alcohol isn't designed to kill as a primary function unlike a gun) you can brew your own liquor at home. It's a bit hard to for your average joe to build a working and reliable firearm from old bits in the shed.

Yup, not to mention if you die due to alcohol, it's your fault for drinking too much. You're hardly to blame for being shot when sitting in a cinema.

So no comedian has ever made light of "9/11" then which resulted in over 3000 deaths? You better not go and watch The Dictator if you're that sensitive.

And no one is making jokes about the deaths, they are making jokes about the situation. The 3D joke for example would work even if there had been no casualties.

If someone was saying "LOL, stupid dead Americans" I could see your point but so far all I've see are gags based on the notion of a shootout taking place at a cinema.
