The RVP situation is really tricky. If we sell him then it furthers the message that we're quite content to just roll over and let other clubs take our players whenever they throw some money at us, it also sends a message to our players that if they make a big enough fuss we'll just submit to their demands. We aren't going to get £25,000,000 for him, but you can see why the club would ask for that when you have relatively unknown and unproven Brazilians going for stupid money.

RVP only has one year left on his current contract but what are we supposed to do? Keeping him could bring a trophy to our club, he'll want to try and replicate the goalscoring form of the past season and a half in order to attract the best clubs. If he gets injured or his form slips then will the very best teams still want him next season when he's going to be 30? Also, if RVP does stay for another season then what happens to the striker which we've just bought?

For country Podolski doesn't have much choice but to play on the wing, with Klose and more recently Gomez preferred up front, but for Cologne he was a powerful striker and the same for Giroud who is very much the man up top. I don't see Wenger changing the formation around, the more likely scenario is that Podolski is played as a winger and Giroud is simply left on the bench, a huge waste in my opinion, especially if RVP does indeed leave next summer, all that will have been achieved is the loss of our best forward and a waste of a year of Giroud.

So basically if we sell him then it makes us yet again look weak, to other teams and to our players, if we keep him then it's probably going to amount to stunting the settling in time of the other acquisitions and it could even cause problems in the dressing room.

How about you sell him to us (Liverpool for £25m) and in 12 months time we'll sell you him back for £8 million?

:D

When he does finally leave it's going to be a relief, the main thing that bothers me is the dragging out of the whole affair, like Bloodline said. To be honest in a couple of years we would need to be looking for a replacement for him anyway, we should just get rid of him now, invest the money in other areas and see how our current forwards do in the upcoming season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed making a bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

The Gunners' skipper has refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium and is also said to be interesting Juventus and Manchester City.

"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him," the manager told MUTV.

"We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we
conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.

"There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."

Can anyone else see the RvP situation developing into another Fabregas situation which ends in Arsenal mugging themselves off.

Everyone knows RvP is going so Arsenal need to wise up and get him gone rather than selling him last minute and desperately bringing in **** to paper over the cracks. Will it need a second instance for Wenger to realise this is stupid?

They've already signed Podolski and Giroud so that they won't be in a position where they're panicking at the last minute should RvP leave so no, it's not another Fabregas situation.

I look at it like this. We are getting rid of him, that is almost 100% sure (never know, might do a Rooney lol) and we have got two established international players as his replacement.

Both are younger and have room to grow. Plus we might grab a third striker.

So RVP out, brilliant but getting on in age and his body is only going to get worse. And bringing in two or three strikers in his place.

We have Bould in to sure up the defence.

Things arent all that bad.

It just needs to be done with now, but I suppose the longer it drags out the more we get for him. Also not so bad :D

Doesn't feel like last summer at all. We all know he is going and we have brought in two forwards to compensate. Letting 3 clubs slug it out for him sounds the ideal situation for us.

If the offer is less than £15m for Van Persie then they might as well keep him and risk losing him on a free rather than risk missing out on a Champions League place. Who knows, if they have a very good season Van Persie might reconsider and sign a contract rather than moving elsewhere.

Really really hope we get him

Me too. Can any team field a better front two than RvP/Rooney?!

I think it's quite unusual to see such an announcement on the website from Sir Alex himself. I think we're pretty serious.

If Man City badly want him and it comes down to money though, they'll get him I think.
