New Build Pc [Budget £550]

Similar to my spec.

The mobo is a lil cheaper (i'd pay the extra for my mobo). You could use the OEM CPU to drop the cost further (like i did). This helps pay for a aftermarket heatsink so you can overclock. Or you could get the retail CPU and ditch the aftermarket heatsink for now to save cash.

The Z77 mobo not only allows overclocking of the intel K CPUs but lucidMVP uses the IGP to boost the GPU. The i3 would be fine for gaming but the Ivybridge i5K is a more powerful CPU and has a better IGP than the i3. The IGP (integrated graphics) is also used by quicksync to help with video encoding tasks by supporting software (both i3 and i5 have this but the latter is better)

Well, it would be less money spent, but the 3570k is a more powerful CPU compared to the 2120, especially when the 3570k is overclocked (which the 2120 cannot). In terms of whether it would make a difference in performance when gaming, it depends on the graphics card. If you were only using a 6850, there wouldn't be much difference, since it would be GPU bottlenecked either way (pretty sure a 2120 wouldn't bottleneck a 3570k in most games). However, if we are talking about using a GTX 680 on BF3 64 person multiplayer (which is quite stressful on the CPU), then the 2120 would definitely hold back the graphics card, whereas the 3570k would be fine. So in terms of forward thinking, the 3570k is more future proof in that you can upgrade the graphics card and get the full performance out of it (plus the 3570k supports PCI-e 3.0). But the 2120 is a good gaming CPU for the price.

hmm maybe i will get it for future reference....so dnt need to spent again and jus upgrade some parts....so according to that build how long will it last for me as in gamin perfmance wise..since new games comes with new requirements...also nned to see where i can cut down money xd

That's why i used the i3 and the 7850 in a earlier spec. For gaming GPU is pretty much king, you will find the 2GB of VRAM useful.

I have a 460 the AMD 6850 is roughly on par with it and yes I must confess as good as it is, it's starting to show it's age now.....BF3 is a VRAM hog!

ok i've played around, feel free to critique the build please, honosuseri

for 550 quid, on bf3, surprisingly (well maybe not so, since bf3 is usually nvidia favoured) the 460ftw is as good as a 6950! http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/510?vs=519
and managed to squeeze in a last gen 120gb sandisk ultra
but no z9, the asgard pro is a viable alternative though

but of course, the compromise is that the upgrade path of this rig is well...terrible ;p

Nobody can say how long a gaming PC will last, my crystal ball is broken.

You linked the 470 not the 460 in the anandtech link bud ;) Proper comparison

That link is still misleading as the 460 was benched at stock speed (675mhz) the EVGA 460FTW edition sold here is clocked at 867mhz (think 6870 performance). I do prefer the 460 over the 6850, however cuda and HDAO lightning aren't really worth the extra £40 especially as the budget is tight. Bare minimum I'd use the cheaper 6850, the difference in price pays for the Z77 mobo, lucidMVP will boost the GPU (he can OC it too).

Whilst the 460 and 6850 are excellent budget cards, I strongly would suggest he looks at the 7850 for the 2GB of VRAM, these GPUs also overclock like mad (over 1000mhz is expected).

I think he'd fill the SSD quickly bud if i'm honest. I used the B grade HDD to get him 1TB for the retail price of 500GB.

It's very tricky balancing builds but i would suggest Z77/i3/7850 if im perfectly honest.

hmmm i love u..now i see less price xd..but grade b trsutable?

I dont see the point of buying a B-grade graphics card which is as expensive as one of the other brand new 6850's :p

the b-grade one is overclocked
it was the 6859 that was on offer last week, might just have been a dsr, so nothing missing

But they come with MSI Afterburner so overclocking them isnt really a problem. Unless you didnt like overclocking that is.

If you are spending over £500 you should get an i5 i think maybe if your budget is below £500 then start looking at lesser CPU's like i3 or AMD. Unless you want to go all out gaming then get yourself a Pentium and GTX 670 / 7970

I only suggested the i5 as the OP posted that he wanted to use fraps and do some video editing where the additional cores would be useful. Also the fact that it'll last as CPUs from several years ago (C2D & C2Q) still perform exceptionally for their age, so think of spending more now as a long term investment in your PC so you only need to upgrade your graphics in the future.. Oh Tamzzy and B-grade again :)
