Why do people hate GFWL so much?

I can't be bothered to sit and defend peoples points about it. I like it and I have no idea what windows 8 has planned so can't comment, we just have to respect what other people like, I and many people love it, many people hate it. Move on

Fixed that for you. Don't claim to speak for anyone else when you're talking such obvious rubbish.

Jog on son

I said "others" not "everyone"

If you check this thread and other GFWL threads you will see the "others" I mention love it as well. Not quite sure where I am talking rubbish?

Some like it some don't, is that rubbish? Or maybe you did not read my posts correct. It happens

Love is a strong word for something that does nothing of merit, especially if you bought your game from the likes of Steam, so yeah, jog on son?

Your view and entitled, don't strike people down who don't agree with it, typical OcUK fashion......

 Typical indeed. It is called discussion, discuss

Out of interest, what does GFWL do for you? Aside from not ruining your game of course

Well for me, I like the achievements, I also like the achievements on Steam but they have no option for a "noise" feature. Now for me I only got back into PC gaming last year, before that it was Xbox gaming. So I am used to hearing a pop when I get an achievement. The biggest plus for me is all my friends play the xbox, so being able to send a message while I am in my own game is a huge plus for me. I have never had it ruin my game as I see no way it could tbh.

Trouble with Steam achievements is half the time they don't show and they have no noise. We should have an option to allow a noise, now we could argue who needs achievements, well many must like it or Steam would not even have the feature.

So GFWL, I like the interface, achievement feature and the ability to speak/message my xbox friends with ease.

...you are seriously criticising steam for not making a 'bing' sound when you get an achievement?

Most achievements are not achievements. MW3 actually has an achievement for STARTING the SP campaign. You do not need to be notified of these because you didn't actually achieve anything. The few rare achievement achievements you tend to either receive upon completion of a section where you'd notice it or you already knew what it was anyway because you read the achievements list and went to get it.

@d_brennen, I was pleasantly surprised when I fired up Bulletstorm and only had to restart the game once. The last time I had to go through that was RF Guerilla and had to do it about 3 or 4 times. And of course, every single time it forgot my log in details and preferences so I had to retype them.

No not really, just saying we should have an option. I am not the only one, quick google search will show you that. After one year I have like 150 games on Steam so not bashing it, not my style.

It doesn't play nice with Windows 8, or at least doesn't for me. Ended up wasting about 4 hours on Batman: Arkham City because the damn thing didn't even tell me it wasn't working right and thus not letting me save my game. Had to go through some rigmarole to get it working and it still isn't right as it won't let me install the Harley Quinn DLC.

So yeah, go GFWL

Go and take a long walk off a short pier.

GFWL is amazing...i love it when it corrupts saved games...even more so when it tells me to login for no reason

GFWL was only decent when 1 key worked for all GFWL games..when that was patched it failed

Can we call them achievements anymore?, I hardly call completing the first mission an achievement, well maybe if it's a GFWL title maybe :p . Even more pointless on GFWL as you can download unlockers on it which give you every single achievement in one go for the game. I consider myself a completist trying to find all content in games, but even I know how utter pointless they are to games now.

GFWL has locked me out of Dawn of War 2 before as it added limited installs, couldn't play the game I payed for and had many hours clocked on it, lucky I had the expansion to create a new install, that was enough to never want GFWL ever again, limited installs. It's just a tedious form of DRM that makes you jump through hoops.

I just don't see the point of it, I bought a game on steam through steam, I want to use steam. it's just there, I'm not even sure what GFWL actually does. I'm not a steam fanboy(just lazy) and steam has a convenient buying method whereas GFWL doesn't actually do anything.
and I refuse to get origin because of a moral thing with EA but that's another issue.

Wow, this thread turned into a lot of absolute douchery... Can't believe some of the childishness people are showing when they don't like what other's are saying against their one sided comments.

I've no issue with GFWL and I've never had a problem when using it, but I acknowledge that lots of people do. That said, the client is a load of faff, and doesn't give much.

I know people that bought a game on Steam want to use just Steam, it's not so simple behind the scenes. The client adds almost nothing, but the matchmaking and online play service that it uses has been tested and proven on the Xbox, and it works pretty well. More importantly, if you're releasing a game multiplatform, you've only got to implement it one less time.

If you're not going full Steamworks on the PC version of your game, you'd be mad to chop and change how your multiplayer works depending on who distributed that copy.. You can't lock people to the service they bought the game on, unless you can lock everyone to the same service. That said... GFWL wouldn't be my choice, nor any of the other existing third party ones if I could avoid it.

When it really gets confusing in why they've implemented it is something like DoW2.. SteamWorks PC exclusive title. GG THQ.
