Firstly I just want to say that I work in music/IT, I have a good knowledge of technology and have both a Mac Pro and a Decent PC. I love both systems.

But now my problem, I was recently an iphone user (4s) but because I felt bored fancied a change and bought the Galaxy S3. I have had the phone for a few weeks and I have got everything just the way I like it.

It's an AMAZING phone, I love it.

But..... upon setting up my wife's Iphone 4s this week I really want one again! The Galaxy S3 is so superior in almost every way, but there is something about the iphone that attracts me to it and I want to use it, and enjoy using it.

Have apple brainwashed me?

AM I INSANE?

I am not sure what it is about it that attracts me, it's almost like it's simplicity does. A bit like a very expensive Audio Amplifier with just an on/off switch as opposed to a cheaper amplifier with millions of features, again.... AM I INSANE?

I am sticking with the S3 for now, because I do love it, I was just curious as to wether or not anyone else might feel the same way? Is it clever marketing or something?

Nope, this is quite common really, for people with no allegiance (unlikely to be many people in this forum) the iPhone is a nice bit of kit. You can't deny that.

People calling it 'rubbish' and a 'toy' are talking rather daftly to be fair. I have the Galaxy S3 and for me personally it's really the first Android phone that is head and shoulders above the current iPhone; as you've said yourself.

However, if someone said I had to use an iPhone 4S, I wouldn't be too bothered about it. It's hard to not enjoy using an iPhone, given that they feel so premium and software flows very nicely, as well as the apps being of an excellent general quality.

It all hinges on how good the iPhone 5 is, it's got to bring more than we're seeing at the moment, especially from a software perspective.

If the marketing really has caused that, you must be one of the weakest people alive.

Haha that really did make me laugh, I wasn't actually being serious about the marketing. I do agree with you about the iphone 5. I will wait and see what they come out with next, and make my decision then.

Actually one of the few things that the scale was tipped in the favor of the iphone for me, was the audio player, it was miles louder than the SGS3, but i have just installed a brilliant zip which actually increased all of the audio across the phone from xda. Now the audio player on the s3 is fantastic.

You're right to some degree though actually.

Apple's marketing has an underlying method of attempting to make people feel inferior if they don't own that particular product. It generates an inferiority complex among certain people, which can cause them to aggressively try and defend the alternative product that they own.

On the flip side of that, it can create a superiority complex among other people, commonly known as Apple fanboys, that the iPhone is the best, no matter what. Period.

Quite refreshing to actually hear an Apple fan admit to this - its a genius piece of marketing from Apple to target the kind of people who fall into that rather "special" category no doubt (not for a second suggesting you fall into that category Robbo but there are a LOT of people here on these forums who do :p )

I also love the iPhone, but mainly for the materials. It oozes quality even down to the satisfying clunk of the closing of the sim tray.

But my S3 is better overall, if only Samsung used premium materials :(

You've still got me down as an Apple 'fan' then!

It's quite incredible that someone can't just be a person who buys something made by Apple because they like it and there's not much more to it... but no, you've got to be a fan. ;)

I don't see a reason to strike an allegiance with a company, be it Samsung, Google, Microsoft, Sony, or Apple. If they make something I like, I'll buy it. If they make something that just isn't good enough, I won't bother.

I just view them as a technology company like any other, nothing particularly special, but not the evil behemoth many people love to obsess over, nor the god-like wonder company that the general public believe they are.

What do you mean by the 'special' category, can you elaborate?

I said Apple fan not Apple fanboy... stop being so sensitive :p I merely meant someone who likes Apple and that is all.
The category I spoke of was that from the post of yours I quoted - i think you know very well the type of person that was being referred to:)

It's not clever marketing, it's just a bloody good phone :p

I wasn't being sensitive, I was just making sure! ;)

I'm not sure fan is the best word though really (given how it's used in reference to Apple usually).

I think Samsung are amazing at taking premium material and making it look somewhat cheaper, the S3 is made out of the same stuff as the one x and the one X feels amazing and a much higher quailty phone. I was really hoping that with the s3 it would be some really nice matte soft touch plastic but instead we get Hyper Glaze, it does feel better then the S1 which it is styled more towards, and in your hand the overall build is extremely nature and even at 4.8" it feels like its the right size and feels much smaller then something like the One X or the nexus.

Also sticking with the OP, I own a 4s and a S2, phones more even matched as the S2 is roughly equal and sometimes worse off (ppi) and sometimes slightly better. I find that form day to day I personally enjoy the S2 more but that more to do with the os and the extra screen space you get, but when I go use and feel the 4s it just feels so much better, the overall design off the phone is just so simple and amazing that it makes me want too use it.

Also at the time I got the s2 it was still on 2.3 which was very very ugly and I hated it to bits but since putting cm9 I really love how stock ICS looks, looking at JB I really see android beating iOS at some of its core values that android never quiet got right till now. Its finally extremely smooth, polished (still needs a bit more work here) and generally feels a more modern OS.

The real genius behind Apple marketing was that they appealed to media types. The people that make TV, News and movies as well as write reviews and blogs... it forced mass market appeal upon people who are less discerning about their technology purchases and more just about a trendy brand.

Hence Apple being able to get away with "inventing" facetime, not having MMS on the original iPhone etc...
